In a touch display device, a controller generates a touch sync signal for controlling timing of a touch sensing period and a display period in each of a plurality of frames. A touch panel has a plurality of touch electrodes in a display area to generate touch sensing signals indicating whether or not a touch occurs during the touch sensing period. A touch sensing circuit supplies a touch drive signal to the plurality of touch electrodes during the touch sensing period and detects if the touch occurred based on the touch sensing signals received from the plurality of touch electrodes. A touch assistance line surrounds the display area and is disposed in the non-display area of the touch panel. A touch assistance signal supply circuit generates a touch assistance signal on the touch assistance line. The touch assistance signal mimics the touch drive signal during the touch sensing period.

A motion compensated video standards converter comprises a block matcher (3) for deriving a plurality of motion vectors for each pixel of each field or frame of an output standards-converted video signal, the motion vectors representing motion between successive fields or frames of an input video signal from which the output video signal is to be derived by motion compensated interpolation, a circuit (25) for testing each said motion vector by deriving the sum of absolute luminance differences of corresponding pixels in blocks of pixels in the two fields or frames of said input video signal temporarily nearest a field or frame of said output video signal, which blocks are pointed to by the motion vector under test, a circuit (26 to 28) for center-weighting said sum of absolute luminance differences if the magnitude of said motion vector under test is less than a predetermined value, and a selector (29) for selecting from said plurality of motion vectors, the motion vector which results in the minimum said sum of absolute luminance differences.

Motion dependent video signal processing

A method and apparatus is provided for the conversion of non-interlaced image data to interlaced image data while reducing flicker effects and simultaneously scaling the image data. A programmable discrete time oscillator (DTO) dynamically determines coefficients that are used in reducing flicker and vertical and horizontal scaling. The two functions are integrated which allow the flicker filter coefficient generated by the DTO to dynamically be modified and take into account desired vertical scaling. A similar DTO is provided to separately perform horizontal scaling using the dynamic coefficients.

A memory unit memorizes the processed signal in synchronism with a write-in address signal given by a first frame synchronizing signal of the input television signal and is read out by a read-out address signal given by a second frame synchronizing signal of a reference television signal having the second frame number per second. The converter determines the interpolation coefficient in accordance with a time interval between a write-in start timing of the memory unit and a read-out start timing of the memory unit.

In a television signal frame number converter for converting an input television signal having a first frame number per second into an output television signal having a second frame number per second in accordance with an interpolation coefficient, a processing unit (11) processes two successive frames on the input television signal by a frame interpolation process to produce a processed signal.
