Provided is an electric brake device capable of early detection of the presence/absence of an abnormality of the electric brake device when a brake operation means is not being operated while a vehicle is traveling. A control device (9) of this electric brake device is equipped with: a basic control means (36a) that imparts a braking force by causing an electric motor (2) to operate in response to an operation performed on a brake operation means (4) by the driver; and an abnormality detection operation control means (36b) that causes the electric motor (2) to operate in accordance with a preset condition when the brake operation means is not being operated while the vehicle is traveling. Furthermore, the control device is equipped with an abnormality detection unit (37) that obtains a measurement value of a predetermined item pertaining to the vehicle when the electric motor (2) is caused to operate by the abnormality detection operation control means (36b) and compares the measurement value with an estimated value or a preset value in order to detect the presence/absence of an abnormality of the electric brake device.

The invention relates to an electromechanical brake system, especially for motor vehicles, having a pedal module (1) and at least two brake modules (7). A central module (6) can also be provided. The connection between the above-mentioned modules can be made through a data bus (5). The data bus has a redundant configuration. In one of the embodiments, the central module (6) can evaluate signals emitted by a sensor system (3) and examines them for errors. The central module (6) can also emit a corresponding brake set value which is then sent to the brake modules (7). The brake modules (7) detect the corresponding control signals for the actuators (8), which interact with the wheels (9) to execute the brake operation desired by the driver.

Estimation of automotive tire force characteristics using wheel velocity

An electric linear motion actuator includes planetary rollers mounted between the radially inner surface of an outer ring member and the radially outer surface of a rotary shaft, and a carrier rotatable about the rotary shaft and including radially movable roller shafts rotatably supporting the respective planetary rollers. Elastic rings each having circumferentially separate ends are each wrapped around the roller shafts to radially inwardly bias the roller shafts, thereby bringing the respective planetary rollers into elastic contact with the radially outer surface of the rotary shaft. Each elastic ring is prevented from rotating relative to the roller shafts, thereby preventing one of the roller shafts from being axially aligned with the gap between the circumferential separate ends, causing the elastic ring to be radially compressed and thus making it impossible for the elastic rings to radially bias the roller shafts.

The estimation of the frictional and clamping forces is one of the key issues in the design and implementation of the electromechanical brake (EMB) system. In this paper, a clamping-force control algorithm is presented along with a consideration of the frictional characteristics and the estimation of the clamping force for a planetary reduction gear-type EMB. The frictional model is developed by including the frictional effect of the motor, the planetary gear, and the screw thread. Since the clamping-force estimation requires the distance of the contact gap between the pad and the disk, an initial gap-distance control algorithm that uses the gradient change of the motor torque is proposed. This paper is concluded with a discussion of the performance of the control algorithm by comparing the simulation results with the experimental results.

The invention relates to an electric brake system for a motor vehicle wherein each wheel of the vehicle includes a brake actuator ( 2 ) assigned thereto. The invention also relates to a brake actuator for an electric brake system. During a braking operation, the brake linings ( 20 a and 20 b ) are pressed against the brake disc ( 30 ) with a pregiven braking force by a braking-force device ( 10 ) of the brake actuator ( 2 ). At least one of the brake actuators ( 2 ) includes a sensor with which an elastic deformation of the braking-force device ( 10 ) or the brake yoke ( 18 ) is measured. This elastic deformation occurs during a braking operation. The braking force is determined from the measured elastic deformation and this braking force is then available for the control of the brake system.

A process and device for starting a motor vehicle having a braking system in which a brake force is at least partially supplied by at least brake energy storage devices. Prior to starting a motor vehicle, the vehicle is initially switched into a non-drivable state in which the vehicle is disabled from movement. A charging state of each brake energy storage device may be checked to ensure an adequate charging state. If the charging state of at least one of the brake energy storage devices is greater than or equal to a predetermined minimum charging state, the vehicle may be switched into a drivable state and, thus, operable by the driver.

Process and device for actuating a braking system during the starting of a motor vehicle

The system has at least two brake circuits (2,4) with wheel brake actuators (12a,12b,12c,12d) which are controlled by operating equipment (6), via processors (8a,8b,10a,10b). There are two processors per brake circuit and the equipment communicates with these via signal cables (7). The processors for the rear wheel brakes (12a,12b), or the rear axle circuit (2), also perform additional functions to control the entire vehicle, and may be connected together to retain an operating capability in the event of a failure. The additional functions can include the evaluation of a reference speed for anti-locking purposes, and for the control of the dynamics of the vehicle.
