The method includes providing an amount of metal-containing dispersed in a fully formulated lubricant composition containing a base oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein the nanoparticles have an average particles size ranging from about 1 to about 10 nanometers. The lubricant composition containing the metal-containing nanoparticles is applied to a surface to be lubricated.

Since a coating film composed of an oxide such as Fe3O4 or FeO and Fe (metal) is formed on the surface of a base material by electric arc spraying of an iron wire principally comprising Fe, a piercing plug can attain excellent heat shielding properties and seizure prevention properties due to this coating film, and the plug can have a long life. When the plug is regenerated, a coating the film can be formed again by sequentially performing shot blasting and arc spraying on a just-pierced plug, and thus the plug can be regenerated in a short time at a low cost.

A method for manufacturing a seamless pipe, capable of preventing the carburization phenomenon that occurs in a manufacturing process of pipe and simplifying an elongation rolling process, is provided. In this method, after piercing in the piercing rolling process, rolling is performed without using an inside regulating tool in the elongation rolling process, or without performing the elongation rolling followed by reducing rolling in a reducing rolling process, and thickening is then performed by use of a cold mill or cold draw bench in a cold rolling process. According to this method, the trap of graphite fine particles in the inner and outer surfaces of the pipe that took place in the conventional elongation rolling process can be minimized to prevent the carburization of the pipe. The method of the present invention is effective, particularly as a measure for preventing the carburization of an ultra-low carbon stainless steel or high alloy steel.

A water-based composition for protective film formation, characterized by containing a water-compatible inorganic salt and a smectite clay mineral. By merely applying the composition to a surface of a metallic material and drying it, a coating film can be formed which is less apt to have spots and is even, and is equal or superior in processability and seizing resistance to coating films formed by a chemical treatment. In the case where the composition further contains a lubricating ingredient, the coating film can further have improved lubricity.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nongraphitic lubricant composition for high-temperature working, having excellent lubricity without causing the carburizing or phosphorating and capable of preventing scratches from occurring due to a substrate. SOLUTION: This lubricant composition for high-temperature working is obtained by blending one or more particulate oxide-based layer materials selected from potassium tetrasilicic mica, sodium tetrasilicic mica, natural phlogopite, bentonite, montmorillonite and vermiculite with one or more binders selected from boron oxide, boric acid, an alkali metallic borate, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate and sodium silicate or potassium silicate having <=100 deg.C melting point at (1:4) to (1:1) weight ratio of the particulate oxide-based layer materials to the binders. The lubricant composition for high-temperature working is used by dispersing and dissolving the composition in water at 20-80 weight ratio.

Lubricant composition for high-temperature working and its usage

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricant capable of prolonging the life of a plug for piercing rolling a seamless steel pipe and to provide a method for piercing rolling a seamless steel pipe using this lubricant. SOLUTION: The lubricant is composed of 1-10% of a granular layered substance, 1-10% of a water-dispersible or water-soluble polymer, 0-15% of an inorganic binder and the rest of water. In the rolling method, employed is a plug having a scale thickness H of at least the tip portion thereof of at least 1 μm and having formed on the surface thereof a dried and hardened coated film of the lubricant having a thickness V satisfying the equation: V>=50/H.

Lubricant for piercing rolling plug and method for piercing rolling seamless steel pipe

PURPOSE: To obtain a lubricant composition for warm processing capable of inhibiting generation of inner surface flaw by using in rolling of stainless steel or alloy steel in a mandrel mill. CONSTITUTION: This lubricant composition for warm processing contains 5-35 pts.wt. of graphite, 5-20 pts.wt. of a water-dispersion type or a water-soluble polymer; 3-15 pts.wt. of boric acid; 3-35 pts.wt. of mica and 15-86 pts.wt. of water. Preferably, graphite, water-dispersion type polymer and mica have respectively a mean particle diameter of =81%. By this composition, friction coefficient between a tool (mandrel bar) and a processed material (hollow shell) is reduced and fusion between both materials is efficiently inhibited, then generation of defect such as inner surface flaw is reduced and increase of yield, etc., is contrived.

Lubricant composition for warm processing

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a seamless steel tube by a plug mill tube-making line by which the generation of a carburized layer on the inside surface is suppressible and seamless alloy steel tube excellent in corrosion resistance which is manufactured by this method. SOLUTION: At the time of manufacturing the seamless steel tube of alloy steel containing, by weight, ≤0.10% C and 4-30% Cr by the plug mill tube- making line, either of graphite, graphitic lubricant and non-graphitic lubricant is used for a lubricant for inside surfaces and, meanwhile, elongation rolling is executed at a thickness rolling reduction of ≤2.5 mm. In this way, the product tube in which the amount ΔC of carburization in the position 100 μm apart in the thickness direction from the inside surface of the tube is not more than 3 times the carbon content of a base material and which is excellent in corrosion resistance can be obtained. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool for hot working which is excellent in wear resistance. SOLUTION: The tool for hot working has a film on the surface. The film contains matrix metal as transition metal or an alloy consisting essentially of transition metal, and hard grains of 25 to 70% by volume ratio in the film. The hard grains include fine hard grains in which the volume ratio in the film is 5 to 30% and the grain size is ≤20 μm, and coarse hard grains in which the volume ratio in the film is 20 to 60% and the grain size is ≥50 μm.
