The invention relates to photonic materials with regularly arranged cavities, containing at least one colorant. The wall material of the photonic material has dielectric properties and acts as such in an essentially non-absorbing manner for the wavelength of an absorption band of the respective colorant and is essentially transparent to the wavelength of an emission of the colorant, which can be excited by the absorption wavelength, and the cavities are formed in such a manner that radiation of the wavelength of the weak absorption band of the colorant is stored in the photonic material. The invention also relates to the use of these photonic materials as luminous substance system in an illuminant, to corresponding illuminants and to production methods.

Die Erfindung betrifft photonische Materialien mit regelmasig angeordneten Kavitaten, enthaltend mindestens ein Farbmittel, wobei das Wandmaterial des photonischen Materials dielektrische Eigenschaften aufweist und als solches im wesentlichen nicht absorbierend fur die Wellenlange einer Absorptionsbande des jeweiligen Farbmittels wirkt und im wesentlichen transparent ist fur die Wellenlange einer durch die Absorptionswellenlange anregbaren Emission des Farbmittels und die Kavitaten so gestaltet sind, dass Strahlung der Wellenlange der schwachen Absorptionsbande des Farbmittels in dem photonischen Material gespeichert wird, deren Verwendung als Leuchtstoffsystem in einem Beleuchtungsmittel, entsprechende Beleuchtungsmittel und Herstellverfahren.

L'invention concerne des materiaux photoniques comportant des cavites agencees de maniere reguliere, renfermant au moins un agent colorant. Selon l'invention, le materiau de paroi dudit materiau photonique presente des proprietes dielectriques. Ainsi, il n'absorbe sensiblement pas la longueur d'onde d'une bande d'absorption de l'agent colorant respectif, et est sensiblement transparent a la longueur d'onde d'une emission de l'agent colorant, qui peut etre induite par la longueur d'onde d'absorption. En outre, les cavites sont configurees de maniere que le rayonnement de la longueur d'onde de la bande d'absorption faible de l'agent colorant soit stockee dans ledit materiau photonique. Cette invention concerne egalement l'utilisation de ces materiaux photoniques en tant que systemes de substance lumineuse dans un moyen d'eclairage, des moyens d'eclairage correspondants, et des procedes de production.

We theoretically demonstrate a white light LED structure containing a one-dimensional photonic crystal which is designed by realistic fabrication parameters for the formation of omnidirectional photonic band gaps. With a band gap around 370 nm, such a novel structure could completely trap the desired UV light inside the LED array and let the visible light pass through.

A novel white light LED structure using omnidirectional one-dimensional photonic crystals

An experimental feasibility study of novel white light LED structure with omni-directional reflectors has been demonstrated. A comparison of the fluorescence with or without omni-directional reflector coating shows that the fluorescence intensity from the phosphor grain layer has been enhanced significantly when with omni-directional reflector coating.
