The invention relates to a self-propelled road-milling machine for doing work on surfacings on the ground, and in particular carriageways. The road-milling machine according to the invention is characterised by a signalling arrangement which has at least one control unit for the entry of at least two different states of operation by the driver of the road-milling machine and at least one visual indicator or display unit to indicate or display for the driver of the transporting vehicle the at least two states of operation which are preset with the control unit by the driver of the road-milling machine. The first state of operation may be a request for the transporting vehicle to be braked or stopped and the second state of operation may be a request for the transporting vehicle to be started or to continue travelling. In a preferred embodiment of the visual indicator or display unit, the request for braking or stopping is shown as a cross and the request for starting or continued travel as an arrow.

A vehicle communication device wherein a display unit is selectively mountable onto a rear shelf of an automobile adjacent a rear window, including a safety switch to automatically de-energize the display unit when improperly oriented relative to the rear window. An electronic system is described for controlling vehicle message lighting including turn and stop indicator signal lights, which system does not require any pre-existing wiring harness in either a towing vehicle 101 or any towed vehicle 104 to be in serviceable condition. In one embodiment the system implements a reliable wireless detection method based on feedback to confirm the state of operation of any such pre-existing 'vehicle indication signal drive line' and includes a control apparatus that wirelessly transmits 230 instructions to at least one local receiver 150 controlling a number of message devices, including, but not limited to, vehicle indication signal lights. Another embodiment of the system bypasses any pre-existing wiring harness and permits the operator to manually over ride its detector. Advantageously, the portable control transmitter apparatus and each receiver apparatus 150 of the invented system are easily installed by a non­technical person requiring minimal tooling and then operated by an unskilled user.

Transmitter apparatus and system for remote signaling

An electrical tell tale system for trailers that consists of a unique tell tale monitor which is light weight which houses different colored light emitting diodes which define each individual trailer circuit. The tell tale monitor has an attached modular cable and modular plug which is connected by a modular socket to the main control unit. The main control unit has two protruding leads which are connected in series with the vehicles trailer wiring harness by connectors. The system works by scanning the trailer signals passing through the main control unit and specially set, wound resistive current sensing coils, which close a reed switch at the correct current which in turn sends a low voltage signal through the modular connection and through the modular cable to the tell tale monitor which will illuminate a certain light emitting diode to notify if the trailer circuit is operational. If the trailer circuit passing through the main control unit is in-operational, the unit on the tell tale monitor will not light, indicating a fault. If a wrong globe is installed for a particular trailer circuit the light emitting diode on the monitor will flash, also indicating a fault The system is tested by unique current and voltage testing tools.

Electrical tell tale system for trailers

A communication device is provided which is intended to aid farm workers in the coordination of harvesting and hauling vehicles in the field during crop harvesting operations. This communication device consists of a transmitter and receiver which are mounted at convenient points within the harvesting vehicle and produce hauling truck respectively. The receiver contains four lighted directional arrows representing directional changes of forwards, backwards, left, and right. The transmitter contains four buttons that correspond in location and function to the directional arrows on the receiver. Thus, when a button on the transmitter is depressed by the harvester operator, the corresponding directional arrow on the receiver will light up signaling the truck driver to make a change in the position of his truck relative to the harvester.
