Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and its determinants in Australian adults aged 25 years and older : A national, population-based study
Robin M. Daly,Claudia Gagnon,Claudia Gagnon,Zhong X. Lu,Dianna J. Magliano,David W. Dunstan,Ken Sikaris,Paul Zimmet,Peter R. Ebeling,Jonathan E. Shaw +9 more
TL;DR: This study evaluated the vitamin D status of Australian adults aged ≥25 years and risk factors associated with vitamin D deficiency in this population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Low Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Is Associated with Increased Risk of the Development of the Metabolic Syndrome at Five Years: Results from a National, Population-Based Prospective Study (The Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study: AusDiab)
Claudia Gagnon,Zhong X. Lu,Dianna J. Magliano,David W. Dunstan,Jonathan E. Shaw,Paul Zimmet,Ken Sikaris,Peter R. Ebeling,Robin M. Daly,Robin M. Daly +9 more
TL;DR: In Australian adults, lower 25(OH)D concentrations were associated with increased MetS risk and higher WC, serum triglyceride, fasting glucose, and insulin resistance at 5 yr, and Vitamin D supplementation studies are required to establish whether the link between vitamin D deficiency and MetS is causal.
Journal ArticleDOI
Serum 25-Hydroxyvitamin D, Calcium Intake, and Risk of Type 2 Diabetes After 5 Years: Results from a national, population-based prospective study (the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle study)
Claudia Gagnon,Zhong X. Lu,Dianna J. Magliano,David W. Dunstan,David W. Dunstan,Jonathan E. Shaw,Paul Zimmet,Ken Sikaris,Narelle Grantham,Peter R. Ebeling,Robin M. Daly +10 more
TL;DR: Higher serum 25OHD levels, but not higher dietary calcium, were associated with a significantly reduced risk of diabetes in Australian adult men and women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Change in fracture risk and fracture pattern after bariatric surgery: nested case-control study
Catherine Rousseau,Sonia Jean,Philippe Gamache,Stéfane Lebel,Fabrice Mac-Way,Laurent Biertho,Laëtitia Michou,Claudia Gagnon +7 more
TL;DR: Patients undergoing bariatric surgery were more likely to have fractures than were obese or non-obese controls, and this risk remained higher after surgery, and only biliopancreatic diversion was clearly associated with fracture risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Reproducibility of the 6-minute Walk Test in Obese Adults
K. Beriault,André C. Carpentier,Claudia Gagnon,Julie Ménard,Jean-Patrice Baillargeon,Jean-Luc Ardilouze,Marie-France Langlois +6 more
TL;DR: It is indicated that the 6MWT is highly reproducible in obese subjects and could thus be used as a fitness indicator in clinical studies and clinical care in this population.
