The collected data is used to develop historical information regarding actual usage of each remote asset. The information is distributed via a global information network.

A diagnostic system and method are provided that include an interface for receiving input relating to observed symptoms indicative of one or more failed components, a processing element for correlating the input relating to the observed symptoms with at least one suspect component that is capable of causing the observed symptoms upon failure, and a display for presenting information relating to the suspect components. The processing element that correlates the input relating to the observed symptoms with the suspect components in accordance with a diagnostic model constructed based upon systemic information, experiential information and factual information. The processing element generally presents the suspect components in a listing prioritized based upon the relative likelihood that the respective suspect components caused the observed symptoms. Additionally, the processing element can present a prioritized listing of tests that can be conducted to refine the identification and prioritization of the suspect components.

Diagnostic system and method

A remote vehicle diagnostics, monitoring, configuration and reprogramming tool is provided. The system includes a fleet of vehicles equipped with wireless mobile communications means that enable fleet managers to remotely diagnose, monitor and reprogram vehicles in their fleet via an Internet Web-based browser environment. Each vehicle within the fleet is equipped with a smart device that is coupled to the data bus within each vehicle. Date commands relating to the vehicle's parameters (e.g., diagnostic parameters such as max road speed, engine RPM, coolant temperature, air inlet temperature, etc.) are sent and received using satellite and terrestrial wireless communications technology. The invention allows users to remotely perform total fleet logistics and eliminates (or reduces) the need to physically bring fleet vehicles to a repair, maintenance or configuration facility.

Computerized method and system for identifying repeatedly malfunctioning equipment and root causes therefor are provided. The method allows to provide a database (e.g., 220) comprising detailed equipment data including data indicative of historical equipment malfunctions in a plurality of pieces of equipment. The equipment data includes a unique equipment identifier for uniquely relating each malfunction to respective equipment. The method further allows to analyze the data base for a selected time window to review equipment malfunctions logged in the database and resulting in servicing activities over that time window. An equipment malfunction threshold for the number of malfunctions occurring during a predetermining period of time is established. The database is configured to automatically issue a report identifying any respective equipment as a repeatedly-malfunctioning-equipment whenever the number of equipment malfunctions resulting in servicing activities over that time window exceeds the equipment malfunction threshold. An input/output device (e.g., 226) is provided to communicate with said database to receive the report from the database. A work order for the repeatedly malfunctioning-equipment is instantiated, wherein the order is configured to remain open at least until service personnel logs comment data into the work order indicative of possible root causes for the repeatedly malfunctioning equipment.

An equipment maintenance system (10) comprises a central data storage warehouse (16) for electronically storing technical information and for providing on-line technical assistance for repairing the equipment.
