Abstract: This paper is concerned with the representation of deep knowledge about actions. Pragmatic Structures (PSs) are presented and discussed as structures of knowledge about actions. They are intended to unify the two separate notions of plan and script. On one hand, PSs attempt to unify current tendencies with memory based and hierarchical planning (Swartout, 1988); on the other, they include circumstantial knowledge, but unlike scripts do not limit themselves to describing typical action sequences. Somewhat in line with schemata (Dyer, 1983), they consist of causal and final relationships.
