Journal ArticleDOI
Markers of endothelial dysfunction in older subjects with late onset Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia
Giovanni Zuliani,Margherita Cavalieri,M. Galvani,Angelina Passaro,M.R. Munari,Cristina Bosi,Amedeo Zurlo,Renato Fellin +7 more
TL;DR: Increased sVCAM-1 plasma levels in LOAD and VD suggest the existence of endothelial dysfunction in both types of dementia, and the possible role of E-selectin in the pathogenesis of cerebrovascular disease is supported by data.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative balance, homocysteine, and uric acid levels in older patients with Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease or Vascular Dementia.
Carlo Cervellati,Arianna Romani,Davide Seripa,Eleonora Cremonini,Cristina Bosi,Stefania Magon,Angelina Passaro,Carlo M. Bergamini,Alberto Pilotto,Giovanni Zuliani +9 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that, although they might share a common OxS-related pathogenesis, VAD and LOAD might maintain some distinctive features, with a predominance of "vascular component" in VAD compared with LOAD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systemic Oxidative Stress in Older Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment or Late Onset Alzheimer's Disease
Carlo Cervellati,Eleonora Cremonini,Cristina Bosi,Stefania Magon,Amedeo Zurlo,Carlo M. Bergamini,Giovanni Zuliani +6 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that a systemic redox-imbalance leading to OxS might be associated not only with LOAD but also with MCI, and serum levels of hydroperoxides were higher while residual antioxidant power was lower in MCI and LOAD compared with in controls.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plasma 24S-hydroxycholesterol levels in elderly subjects with late onset Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia: a case-control study
Giovanni Zuliani,Michela Perrone Donnorso,Cristina Bosi,Angelina Passaro,Edoardo Dalla Nora,Amedeo Zurlo,Francesco Bonetti,Alessia F Mozzi,Claudio Cortese +8 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that plasma 24S-OH-Chol levels might be increased in the first stages of LOAD, and this phenomenon might be related with systemic inflammation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Systemic oxidative stress and conversion to dementia of elderly patients with mild cognitive impairment.
Carlo Cervellati,Arianna Romani,Davide Seripa,Eleonora Cremonini,Cristina Bosi,Stefania Magon,Carlo M. Bergamini,Giuseppe Valacchi,Giuseppe Valacchi,Alberto Pilotto,Giovanni Zuliani +10 more
TL;DR: Results suggest that systemic OxS might be a precocious feature of MCI and LOAD, however, the role of OxS as an early prognostic marker of progression to LOAD needs further investigations.
