Journal ArticleDOI

Identification of Acinetobacter isolates in the A. calcoaceticus-A. baumannii complex by restriction analysis of the 16S-23S rRNA intergenic-spacer sequences.

TL;DR: The detection of restriction length polymorphism in the spacer sequences between the 16S and 23S rRNA genes as a method for the identification of isolates in the A. calcoaceticus-A.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Characterization of Integrons in Epidemiologically Unrelated Clinical Isolates of Acinetobacter baumannii from Italian Hospitals Reveals a Limited Diversity of Gene Cassette Arrays

TL;DR: Integron carriage by 36 epidemiologically unrelated Acinetobacter baumannii isolates collected over an 11-year period from patients in six different Italian hospitals was investigated and ribotype analysis of the isolates demonstrated a notable genetic diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI

PCR ribotyping for characterizing Salmonella isolates of different serotypes.

TL;DR: The 16S-23S intergenic spacer region in 218 strains of Salmonella isolated from four Italian hospitals during the period from 1977 to 1994 was analyzed by PCR ribotyping, allowing for the identification of seven different and specific electrophoretic profiles for the seven serovars S.
Journal ArticleDOI

Clonal Relatedness and Conserved Integron Structures in Epidemiologically Unrelated Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains Producing the VIM-1 Metallo-β-Lactamase from Different Italian Hospitals

TL;DR: The present findings suggest that the three VIM-1-producing isolates are members of the same clonal complex which have been spreading in hospitals in northern Italy since the late 1990s and point to a common ancestry of their blaVIM- 1-containing integrons.
