A selected bibliography: Remote sensing applications in land-use and land-cover inventory tasks

Tne bibliography contains 82 citations of selected publications and technical reports. The references deal with the application of remote sensing techniques to the collection and analysis of geographic data. All of the citations were published between January 1968 and July 1977. INTRODUCTION This bibliography represents a selected list of references on the application of remote sensing techniques in geographic research involving the collection and analysis of spatial data. The bibliography is divided into the following categories: Cartography, demography/population, geomorphology, land resource analysis, land use/land cover, and urban and regional planning. The bibliography is not intended to be all-inclusive, but rather a list of selected 'significant works published from January 1968 to July 1977. The major U.S. periodicals and symposium and professional meetings proceedings were examined, as were NASA listings of reports dealing with remote sensing. Also included in the bibliography are citations from University and corporate sources.

A selected bibliography: Remote sensing applications in geography

Remote sensing technology can satisfy or make significant contributions toward satisfying many of the information needs of governmental natural resource planners and policy makers. Recognizing this potential, the South Dakota State Planning Bureau and the EROS Data Center together formulated the framework for an ongoing Land Use and Natural Resource Inventory and Information System Program. Statewide land use/land cover information is generated from LANDSAT digital data and high altitude photography. Many applications of the system are anticipated as it evolves and data are added from more conventional sources. The conceptualization, design, and implementation of the program are discussed.

The South Dakota cooperative land use effort: A state level remote sensing demonstration project

The recent availability of timely synoptic earth imagery from the Earth Resources Technology Satellites (ERTS) provides a wealth of information for the monitoring and management of vital natural resources. Formal language definitions and syntax interpretation algorithms were adapted to provide a flexible, computer information system for the maintenance of resource interpretation of imagery. These techniques are incorporated, together with image analysis functions, into an Interactive Resource Information Management and Analysis System, IRIMAS, which is implemented on a Texas Instruments 980A minicomputer system augmented with a dynamic color display for image presentation. A demonstration of system usage and recommendations for further system development are also included.

On the development of an interactive resource information management system for analysis and display of spatiotemporal data

Development of a scheme for utilizing remote sensing technology in an operational program for regional land use planning and land resource management program applications. The scheme utilizes remote sensing imagery as one of several potential inputs to derive desired and necessary data, and considers several alternative approaches to the expansion and/or reduction and analysis of data, using automated data handling techniques. Within this scheme is a five-stage program development which includes: (1) preliminary coordination, (2) interpretation and encoding, (3) creation of data base files, (4) data analysis and generation of desired products, and (5) applications.
