Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of recrystallization on room temperature tensile properties of an Fe3Al-based alloy

TL;DR: In this article, the authors determined whether recrystallization alone had an effect on the room temperature tensile properties of a Fe[sub 3]Al-based alloy, and found that the best tensile strength and ductility were attained in specimens which had been heat treated to relieve stresses produced by the fabrication process but that had a minimum number of recrystized grains.
Journal ArticleDOI

Additive manufacturing as a processing route for steel-aluminum bimetallic structures

TL;DR: In this article , the authors present results on the fabrication of steel-aluminum bi-metallic structures using directed energy deposition additive manufacturing, and the challenges associated with fabrication of a sharp transition from steel to aluminum are uncovered using ex-situ characterization techniques and thermodynamic modeling of the deposition process.
