In a preceding project, functional forms for “short” Helmholtz energy equations of state for typical nonpolar and weakly polar fluids and for typical polar fluids were developed using simultaneous optimization. In this work, the coefficients of these short forms for the equations of state have been fitted for the fluids acetone, carbon monoxide, carbonyl sulfide, decane, hydrogen sulfide, 2-methylbutane (isopentane), 2,2-dimethylpropane (neopentane), 2-methylpentane (isohexane), krypton, nitrous oxide, nonane, sulfur dioxide, toluene, xenon, hexafluoroethane (R-116), 1,1-dichloro-1-fluoroethane (R-141b), 1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane (R-142b), octafluoropropane (R-218), 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (R-245fa), and fluoromethane (R-41). Temperature dependence of viscosity and relation with the surface tension of ionic liquids

The density and viscosity of synthesized 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium iodide ([Cnmim]I, n = 4, 6, 8) were measured in the wide range of temperature of (298 to 393) K. Using a vacuum line, measurements of the viscosity were made under a water-vapor free atmosphere. The viscosity decreases sharply with temperature and increases as the alkyl chain length increases. The molecular dynamics simulation was performed for the densities of these ionic liquids to remedy the lack of literature experimental data. The results are quite in agreement with the experiments, with a maximum deviation of 3.00 % due to [C8mim]I at 358 K. The viscosities fit best in the modified Arrhenius, Vogel−Fulcher−Tammann (VFT), and Litovitz equations. The viscosities also fit in the simple linear equation we proposed recently with accuracies comparable with Litovitz and VFT.

Temperature-Dependent Density and Viscosity of the Ionic Liquids 1-Alkyl-3-methylimidazolium Iodides: Experiment and Molecular Dynamics Simulation

This paper contains new, representative reference equations for the viscosity of toluene. The equations are based in part upon a body of experimental data that have been critically assessed for internal consistency and for agreement with theory whenever possible. The correlations are valid from the triple point (178.0 K) to 675 K, and at pressures up to 500 MPa. The estimated uncertainty at a 95% confidence level varies depending on the region of temperature and pressure from a low of 0.3% for the low-density gas at temperatures from 305 to 640 K at pressures to 0.3 MPa (essentially the uncertainty of the best experimental data) to 0.7% for the saturated liquid at temperatures from 263 to 373 K, to 5% for the low-temperature liquid from 187 to 210 K at pressures to 15 MPa.

The deviations in the viscosity from a mole fraction average were fitted in a Redlich−Kister type equation, which includes the contribution of each constituent binary system along with a ternary contribution term. The viscosity deviations were negative in most of the cases.
