Fiber waviness in nanotube-reinforced polymer composites-I: Modulus predictions using effective nanotube properties

Transparent conductive carbon nanotube (CNT) films were fabricated by dip-coating solutions of pristine CNTs dissolved in chlorosulfonic acid (CSA) and then removing the CSA. The film performance and morphology (including alignment) were controlled by the CNT length, solution concentration, coating speed, and level of doping. Using long CNTs (∼10 μm), uniform films were produced with excellent optoelectrical performance (∼100 Ω/sq sheet resistance at ∼90% transmittance in the visible), in the range of applied interest for touch screens and flexible electronics. This technique has potential for commercialization because it preserves the length and quality of the CNTs (leading to enhanced film performance) and operates at high CNT concentration and coating speed without using surfactants (decreasing production costs).

High-Performance Carbon Nanotube Transparent Conductive Films by Scalable Dip Coating

The present review article represents a comprehensive study on polymer micro/nanocomposites that are used in high-voltage applications. Particular focus is on the structure-property relationship of composite materials used in power engineering, by exploiting fundamental theory as well as numerical/analytical models and the influence of material design on electrical, mechanical and thermal properties. In addition to describing the scientific development of micro/nanocomposites electrical features desired in power engineering, the study is mainly focused on the electrical properties of insulating materials, particularly cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) and epoxy resins, unfilled and filled with different types of filler. Polymer micro/nanocomposites based on XLPE and epoxy resins are usually used as insulating systems for high-voltage applications, such as: cables, generators, motors, cast resin dry-type transformers, etc. Furthermore, this paper includes ample discussions regarding the advantages and disadvantages resulting in the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties by the addition of micro- and nanofillers into the base polymer. The study goals are to determine the impact of filler size, type and distribution of the particles into the polymer matrix on the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of the polymer micro/nanocomposites compared to the neat polymer and traditionally materials used as insulation systems in high-voltage engineering. Properties such as electrical conductivity, relative permittivity, dielectric losses, partial discharges, erosion resistance, space charge behavior, electric breakdown, tracking and electrical tree resistance, thermal conductivity, tensile strength and modulus, elongation at break of micro- and nanocomposites based on epoxy resin and XLPE are analyzed. Finally, it was concluded that the use of polymer micro/nanocomposites in electrical engineering is very promising and further research work must be accomplished in order to diversify the polymer composites matrices and to improve their properties.

Properties of Polymer Composites Used in High-Voltage Applications.

We report an efficient and environmentally benign biomimetic mineralization of TiO2 at the graphitic carbon surface, which successfully created an ideal TiO2/carbon hybrid structure without any harsh surface treatment or interfacial adhesive layer. The N-doped sites at carbon nanotubes (CNTs) successfully nucleated the high-yield biomimetic deposition of a uniformly thick TiO2 nanoshell in neutral pH aqueous media at ambient pressure and temperature and generated N-doped CNT (NCNT)/TiO2 core/shell nanowires. Unlike previously known organic biomineralization templates, such as proteins or peptides, the electroconductive and high-temperature-stable NCNT backbone enabled high-temperature thermal treatment and corresponding crystal structure transformation of TiO2 nanoshells into the anatase or rutile phase for optimized material properties. Nanotubes as polymers

The density of solids and the lattice constants (for the latter see “Uranium” Suppl. Vol. C4, 1984, pp. 112/7) are directly interrelated. In general the X-ray density calculated from the lattice constants agrees very well with the density determined from pycnometric measurements. Except for a relatively narrow temperature range in the neighborhood of the melting point, the dilatometrically measured thermal expansion coefficient generally agrees well with the lattice constant changes determined via X-ray diffraction. In uranium dioxide, however, several additional difficulties arise, which make the measurements uncertain and the results less comparable.
