Economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare facilities and systems: International perspectives

This paper empirically investigates the impact of COVID-19 on the volatility of stock prices in India with the help of a generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity model. Daily closing prices of stock indices, Nifty and Sensex from September 3, 2019 to July 10, 2020 has been used for the analysis. Further, the study has been attempted to make a comparison of stock price return in pre-COVID-19 and during COVID-19 situation. Findings reveal that the stock market in India has experienced volatility during the pandemic period. While comparing the result during COVID period with that of the pre-COVID, we found that the return on the indices is higher in the pre-COVID-19 period than during COVID-19.

The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on stock market volatility: Evidence from a worst-affected economy.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has created an unprecedented loss and disruptions over all across the world. From developed to developing, no country has been spared from its brunt. In this paper, we have analyzed the implications of COVID-19 on the economy and society of India so far. An impact assessment on the basis of available lietrature is made on all the three sectors-primary, secondary and service sector along with the impact on migrants, health, poverty, job losses, informal sector, environment, and so forth. The all sectors of the economy has been disproportionately affected and even within a sector, there is a disproportionate loss. The societal impacts are dire too with job losses, mental illness, increased domestic violence, and so forth. Some positive effects can be seen in terms of improved air quality, water quality, wildlife but the sustainability of such impact is conditional upon post-COVID and people's habits and future policies related to the environment.

An assessment of socioeconomic impact of COVID-19 pandemic in India.

In modern days, economic growth is energy-dependent and vice versa. Earlier studies concentrated a bit to analyze the influence of globalization and politico-administrative factors on the energy consumption-economic growth nexus in developing economies. The motivation for the current research is to scrutinize the energy consumption-economic growth nexus while accounting for the influence of globalization and country risk indicators—the politico-administrative factors in a panel of 4 South Asian countries (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) during 1980–2018. To check the issues of heterogeneity and cross-sectional independence, the study employs the pooled mean group estimation method. The investigated results provide a nexus between energy consumption and economic growth where globalization - a long-run force positively affects this nexus in the long run and negatively in the short run. Besides, the politico-administrative factors have an adverse impact in the long run and an insignificant effect on this nexus in the short run. The Dumitrescu–Hurlin non-causality test establishes the feedback hypothesis concerning energy consumption-economic growth nexus in South Asian economies. The study results remain robust across the dynamic ordinary least square estimator. Therefore, this study suggests sustaining the energy-growth nexus to properly handle globalization and politico-administrative and the Covid-19 pandemic issues through institutional quality. Moreover, the objective-oriented policies are critical to strengthening the energy-growth nexus without decaying environmental quality in South Asian countries. © 2021 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Globalization and politico-administrative factor-driven energy-growth nexus: A case of South Asian economies

Do Indian states with comprehensive labor measures experience low fatality due to COVID-19? An analysis of the relationship between labor measures of the state government in India and the severity of the pandemic reveals that states such as Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Kerala, Odisha, and Bihar that have adopted inclusive labor measures have witnessed lesser case fatality ratios. In contrast, states like West Bengal, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra with inadequate labor measures have experienced high levels of COVID-19-related fatalities. The impressive approach adopted by the successful states can be considered as a model to deal with the despairing labor force during the global pandemic.

COVID-19: Severity of the pandemic and responses of Indian states

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected different sectors of the economy in an unprecedented way, and this article is an attempt to analyze the economic effect of the outbreak in India However, before we assess the economic cost associated with the pandemic, we economists fully consider the outbreak as a human tragedy There has not been any econometric technique that can account the countless human sufferings that the crisis has brought Through this article, we address several important research questions and demonstrate India's strength to stay immune to combat COVID-19 pandemic The research questions are as follows First, what will be the effect of COVID-19 on the Indian economy and how does it affect the different sectors of the economy? Second, how does the pandemic affect the bilateral trade relation between India and China? Third, we question the role of the public health system in dealing with the outbreak of the virus in India This article also presents the growth projection of the Indian economy by different economic agents We finally conclude the article by mentioning a few policy recommendations for the Indian economy
