Artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled CRM capability in healthcare: The impact on service innovation

• We highlight service innovation in the sharing economy (SE) as a strategic priority. • Our Sharing Economy Innovation Framework synthesises current research. • 13 papers in this Special Issue deepen knowledge on innovations in the SE. • We outline a comprehensive research agenda for service innovation research in SE. The sharing economy (SE) has been variously described as a disruptive, discontinuous, and social innovation. Now, more than a decade since the emergence of seminal platforms such as Airbnb, and amid heightened competition and macroenvironmental pressures, service innovation has become a strategic priority. Our editorial essay is guided by three objectives. First, as a prelude to this Special Issue, we examine the current state of SE service innovation literature. Despite some important contributions, especially in relation to business model innovation, other salient types of service innovation remain underexplored. Second, we position the contributions of the 13 papers in this Special Issue on our novel Sharing Economy Innovation Framework , which stipulates both the type of service innovation examined, and the focal dyadic relationships involved. Third, based on remaining gaps in the framework, we outline an agenda for future research on SE innovations. 

Innovation in the sharing economy: A framework and future research agenda

The overall objective of this study was to investigate urban infill development policies as a good solution to counteract urban sprawl and protect the peri-urban area of Ardabil in Northwestern Iran. In this context, we used a mixed methodology (two quantitative methods). Landsat imagery, including a patchy Landsat ETM+ for the year 2000 and a Landsat 8 for the year 2020, was used to map and assess land use to investigate sprawl and land-use change, and ArcGIS was used to investigate the potential for infill development in this city. The results show that between 2000 and 2020, 967 hectares of peri-urban land was lost to urban expansion. CA-Markov projections also showed that 452 hectares will be lost by 2030. The assessment of the city’s internal capacity for infill development showed that more than 999 hectares of land within the city are suitable to support this strategy and provide the land needed for urban expansion over the next decade. Finally, the study of the city’s master plan, which applies to all Iranian cities, discovered that there is a lack of adequate outlook regarding the amount of land available for future urban development, leading to misuse of urban land and urban sprawl in Iranian cities, suggesting that an infill development strategy could be a good way to address this issue.

Beyond effective use: Integrating wise reasoning in machine learning development

PurposeIn the sharing economy (SE), consumer misbehaviour is an operational challenge for platforms due to its negative outcomes. The psychological mechanism behind consumer misbehaviour remains unclear. As such, this research aims to investigate how consumers' sharing motivations affect their misbehaviours in the SE.Design/methodology/approachDrawing on motivated cognition theory, the authors establish a research model explaining the effects of consumers' sharing motivations on their cost–benefit analysis of misbehaviour and misbehaviour intention. A scenario-based online experiment is used to test the research hypotheses.FindingsThe results indicate that consumers' extrinsic and intrinsic motivations to share have different impacts on their perceived benefits and costs of potential misbehaviour, thereby influencing their misbehaviour intention.Originality/valueThis study reveals consumers' psychological mechanism underlying their misbehaviours in the SE and provides operational implications for platforms to help them effectively reduce consumer misbehaviours through preventive measures.
