In a fuel injection valve in which a fixed core (107) and a moving element (114) is contained inside a pipe-shaped member (101), and a coil (105) and a yoke (103) are provided on an outer side thereof, a space for placing the coil (105) is placed so that an inner circumference length in a vertical section of the space becomes smaller than an outside diameter of the yoke (103), or a height of the space in an axial direction of the fixed core (107) becomes smaller than a diameter of the fixed core (107).

PURPOSE: To obtain a quartz glass which has optically high quality and can be used for a photomask substrate or an optical fiber preform by subjecting a dry gel to sealing treatment, heating the gel to form a glass body or glass precursor and maintaining it at temp. higher than the heat treatment. CONSTITUTION: After a sol soln. containing a silicon compd. gels, the gel is dried to obtain a dry gel. The pares of the dry gel are sealed and the gel is heated at a first heating temp. to obtain a glass body or glass precursor. The obtd. glass body or precursor is left to stand, heated at a second temp. which is higher than the first heating temp., and maintained for a specified time to obtain a quartz glass. Then the quartz glass is cooled. In at least a part of the cooling process, the glass is gradually cooled. If large particles or impurities which are hardly vitrified are mixed in the source material, a complete homogeneous glass can not be obtd. It is preferable that the treatment of the sol is carried out in a clean environment and particles larger than a specified size are removed by filtering or centrifugal separation.

A turbocharger wastegate control system is responsive to electrical control signals to control the position of a wastegate valve positioned within an exhaust bypass conduit of the turbocharger. In one embodiment, the control system includes an air pressure control device having an inlet port receiving boost air pressure from an intake manifold connected to the turbocharger, an outlet port providing wastegate air pressure to a wastegate actuator and a vent to atmosphere. A number of air flow control switches are responsive to electrical control signals to control the levels of boost air pressure and vented air to thereby provide a plurality of discrete wastegate air pressure levels to the wastegate actuator. In another embodiment, the control system includes an electrically controllable wastegate actuator responsive to boost air pressure and electrical control signals to modulate the position of the wastegate actuator plunger.

PURPOSE:To improve the warming performance under cooling and the operational feeling by controlling fuel feed means such that the lower one of the air/fuel ratios to be determined from the engine load and the engine rotation and to be determined from the engine temperature will be employed. CONSTITUTION:When controlling the operation of fuel injection solenoid valves 9, 10 arranged in an intake path 1 through a controller 14 thus to control the air/fuel ratio into proper level corresponding with the operating condition, the controller 14 will first operate the engine load A/N on the basis of the intake air A and the engine rotation N to be produced from the output signal of an air-flow sensor 16 and a rotation sensor 17. Thereafter, first air/fuel ratio AFe is determined from the engine load A/N and the engine rotation N. While second air/fuel ratio AFt is determined from the cooling water temperature TW to be obtained from a water temperature sensor 21. Then said air/fuel ratios AFe, AFt are compared and the injection valves 9, 10 are controlled to produce the lower air/fuel ratio.

Engine fuel feeder

PURPOSE:To enable to adjust the idling operation of an engine, by employing a simple mechanism which is arranged such that the position of a throttle valve can be shifted stepwise between a large and a small two openings, that is, the throttle valve takes a small opening when the engine speed is higher than a prescribed value and a large opening when the engine speed is lower than the prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A first lever 3 and a second lever 6 are fixed to the shaft 2a of a throttle valve 2. The first lever 3 is turned by a wire 4 connected to an accelerator pedal. When the accelerator pedal is retracted, the first lever 3 comes into abutment with a speed control screw 5, so that the throttle valve takes a small-opening position. On the other hand, the second lever 6 is associated with a throttle opener 8. When the engine speed is lower than a prescribed value, a three-way valve 12 is energized by a signal produced by a control unit 18 and a negative pressure in an intake manifold is acted in a chamber 8a of the throttle opener 8. Resultantly, the second lever 6 is pulled upward and the throttle valve 2 take a large-opening position.

Apparatus for controlling idling operation of engine

PURPOSE:To suspend the switching of valves at the time of lowering of the oil pressure to prevent damages of the engaged portions in the title controller in which a stopper is actuated by a hydraulic actuator to restrict the movement of a plunger at the tip end of a locker arm and the operation and suspension of the valves are switched. CONSTITUTION:A plunger making contact with the upper end of the stem of the valve is provided at the tip end of the locker arm, and when the stopper operated by the hydraulic actuator comes into engagement with the plunger, the movement of the plunger is restricted and the lifting of the cam is transmitted to valves, thus the valves being operated. When the engagement between the actuator and the plunger is released, the plunger makes a relative movement with respect to the locker arm to suspend the operation of the valves. Operation switching valves 136 and 137 are provided in the hydraulic passages 132 and 133, and the above operation is switched responsive to the engine driving condition. However, when the lowering of the oil pressure is detected, a changeover command with respect to the switching valve is not issued, and an incomplete engagement between the stopper and the plunger is prevented thereby to prevent damages of the engaged parts.

Controller of valve operation stop mechanism

PURPOSE:To enable the highly reliable control of an engine by a construction wherein a control based on an actual quantity of sucked-in air detected actually and a control based on a simulative quantity of sucked-in air estimated based on the opening of a throttle valve at least can be selected in accordance with the state of operation of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A first controlling means M1 of a controller 14 delivers a first engine-controlling signal, which is based on an actual quantity Ar of sucked-in air, to the elements of an engine to be controlled, such as solenoid-operated fuel injection valves 9 and 10. A second controlling means M2 of the controller 14 delivers to said elements a second engine-controlling signal which is based on a simulative quantity As of sucked-in air (data thereof are stored in a map of the controller 14) estimated based upon the opening theta of a throttle and the number N of revolutions of the engine, prior to the means M1 when the following conditions are met: (1) the speed of closure of a throttle valve 11 exceeds a prescribed value; (2) an erroneous operation rate epsilon=Ar/As exceeds a prescribed value; and (3) the difference between Ar and As exceeds a prescribed value.

PURPOSE:To enable the stroke distance of a plunger to be easily further accurately adjusted to a desired value, by plastically deforming a plastic seat member and ajusting a clearance formed between a core and the plunger when a valve is closed. CONSTITUTION:Under the condition in which a coil assembly 2, center core 7, etc. are built in a casing 1, a plastic seat member 20 is mounted to the end part of a valve seat member housing space in the casing 1, and a valve seat member 4 is inserted from the upper of said member 20. If the valve seat member 4 is pressed by a hydraulic piston 24, the seat member 20 is plastically deformed, in this way, a protrusive limit of a plunger 6 decrease causing a clearance 11 to also decrease. This condition can be accurately caught by movement of a pointer 26a of a micrometer 26, and when a value of the clearance 11 reaches the prescribed value, the hydraulic piston 24 is stopped driving to press the member 4.
