Abstract: Pattern recognition techniques are being applied to the analysis of data gathered from a multiband optical-mechanical scanner mounted on an aerospace platform. The purpose of the system is to provide automated techniques for making surveys of earth resources such as agricultural crop status, forest inventories, bodies of water, etc. This paper describes techniques used in the research including aspects of categorizer design, feature selection algorithms, and other methods suitable for carrying out research in a high data volume environment.
