The present invention provides systems and method for delivering information to a transmitting and receiving device. The device receives a notification alerting a user of the device that information is available to be obtained and, in some embodiments, providing a short description of the information. After receiving the notification at the device, the user can then use the device to obtain or otherwise act on the information at a time and at a place convenient to the user.

The clamp arrangement may be an inflatable actuator (10) that is operable to clamp the disk 10 drive (12) to the block (8) via a disk drive carrier (2) . Various clamp assemblies for clamping a disk drive (12) to a substrate, such as a disk drive carrier (12), are also disclosed. A disk drive carrier (12) that can be adapted for use with different types of disk drive (2) is also disclosed. Such disk drives (2) include those that provide for electrical and/or data connections under the disk drive (2), those that provide for electrical and/or data connections at the rear of the disk drive (2), and those that have their own so-called product card associated therewith.

Disk drive support assembly, clamp assembly and disk drive carrier

A mounting for a disk drive unit comprises a carrier (14) for carrying a disk drive unit (12) during required movement of the disk drive unit. The carrier (14) defines a space into which the disk drive unit (12) can be inserted, and the carrier is adapted to be inserted with the disk drive unit into a receiving frame (8) for operational use. At least two resilient devices (15) are mounted on the carrier (14) for securing the disk drive unit (12) in the receiving frame (8) when the carrier is inserted into the frame, at least one resilient device (15) being mounted on each side of the carrier (14) to allow movement of the device as a whole relative to the carrier, and the resilient device is arranged to secure the disk drive unit (12) in the receiving frame (8) by acting between the disk drive unit (12) and the receiving frame (8). A method of handling the disk drive unit comprises placing the disk drive unit (12) into the carrier (14) engaging a robotic device (49) with a coupling structure (47) projecting from the front of the carrier (14). The method then includes lifting the carrier (14) by the robotic device (49) and inserting the carrier into a receiving frame (8) by a substantially horizontal movement.

Mounting for disk drive unit and method of handling

A disk drive test apparatus (1) has a plurality of bays (4) each for receiving a respective disk drive to be tested. A plurality of card slots (6) are provided each for receiving a test card (7, 8) via which a disk drive can be tested. Each of the test cards is either an environment test card (7) or an interface test card (8). The card slots (6) and the test cards (7, 8) are arranged such that each card slot (6) can selectively receive an environment test card (7) or an interface test card (8). An apparatus for controlling the temperature of a disk drive during manufacture of the disk drive has a cell having a mounting arrangement to which a disk drive can be mounted and having walls defining a volume in which the disk drive is received when mounted to the mounting arrangement during manufacture of the disk drive. At least one wall of the cell adjacent said volume is heat conductive and is arranged such that a disk drive when received in the volume does not touch said at least one wall. An air-agitating device agitates air between the at least one wall and a disk drive when received in the volume to encourage heat transfer between said at least one wall and a disk drive when inserted into the volume. The air-agitating device is mounted so as to be vibrationally isolated from a said disk drive when mounted in the cell.

Method and apparatus for controlling the temperature of a disk drive during manufacture

Apparatus is provided for supporting a disk drive (11) that has a disk which rotates in use about a disk axis and an arm which pivots over the disk in use about an arm axis. The disk axis and the arm axis are generally perpendicular to the plane of the disk. The apparatus includes a disk drive carrier (10) having a disk drive receiving portion (12) in which the disk drive (11) can be received and a housing (16) in which the carrier (10) can be received. In one aspect, a mounting arrangement is provided for supporting the carrier (10) within the housing (16) such that the centre of rotation of the carrier (10) is outside the disk drive receiving portion (12) of the carrier (10). In another aspect, a mounting arrangement is provided for supporting the carrier (10) within the housing (16), the mounting arrangement comprising a forced pivot (15) at or towards the opposite end of the disk drive carrier (10) and about which the carrier (10) is fixed for pivotal movement in the housing (16).

Apparatus for Supporting a Disk Drive and Disk Drive Test Apparatus

A disk drive carrier assembly for carrying plural disk drives is provided. The assembly has a casing having first and second opposed ends, opposed sides, a top and a bottom. Drive cards are provided in the casing. Each drive card has a disk drive receiving portion for receiving a disk drive and provides at least one of a power and a data connection to a disk drive. A baffle arrangement splits an air stream entering the casing at a first end of the casing to flow over the disk drive receiving portion of each of the drive cards. The drive cards and the baffle arrangement are arranged so that air flows only in parallel over the disk drive receiving portion of each of the drive cards. In this way, each disk drive receiving portion receives air that has not passed over another disk drive receiving portion of the assembly.
