An anesthesia delivery and monitoring system (10) for use during outpatient surgery performed under sedation level anesthesia that includes a ventilatory system (20), a system for supplying sedation anesthesia (14, 50), a respiratory sensor (28, 40, 64, 80) adapted to detect a respiration parameter of such a patient, and a system for supplying a timed back-up breath to such a patient through the ventilatory system. The timed back-up breaths are supplied in response to the respiration parameter falling outside a preset threshold and at a positive pressure exceeding a base operating pressure of the respiratory system. The system for supplying sedation anesthesia is an intravenous supply system for anesthesia, a ventilatory system coupled to the patient, a needle and syringe, or any combination thereof. The respiratory system includes a PC-based physiologic monitor with user modified feedback control signal.

A method, and apparatus for accomplishing the method, for determining the frequency of an RF signal that operates by sequentially applying a received RF signal to sequentially selected individual filters having predetermined frequency pass bands and comparing the magnitudes of the filtered and unfiltered RF signals. The frequency of the RF signal is determined as being within the predetermined frequency pass band of a filter that outputs a largest magnitude output signal relative to the magnitude of the RF signal. Signals of insufficient magnitude are not processed by the system.

Modern illumination systems are equipped with photosensors. The photosensors which are normally used do not, however, detect the illuminance (intensity of illumination, lighting level) (E0) which can be measured on an area (34) to be illuminated, but the luminous flux (light flux) reflected from this area. The novel method and the circuit arrangement for carrying it out are intended to effect an automatic matching of the measured values to the actual control variable, the illuminance (E0). In the novel method, the measured value which is transmitted by a sensor module (4) via an application circuit (5) to a bus coupling (2) is amplified to the actual value by a gain control which acts as actuator of a closed-loop control circuit. For gain control, a resistor network (9) is connected via analog switches (24) to the feedback (8) of an operational amplifier (7) of the bus coupling (2) depending on a value which is digitally transmitted by the bus coupling (2). The method and the arrangement to carry it out are particularly suitable for illumination control in conjunction with house installation systems which can be bused.

The Smart Programmable Amplifier System provides a microprocessor based aification system which uses programmable gain amplifier (PGA) techniques. It is used in remote data acquisition systems where it must cover a wide signal range, but the actual measurement range is much smaller during a given time interval. The system interfaces to a host computer to provide complete operator control and to relay continuous status information. The system provides automatic and programmable gain control to meet individual test requirements.

A system, or applique apparatus, for recording and reproducing large numb of electrical signals on input channel limited recording devices is described. It is accomplished by time sequencing groups of pluralities of separate input signals to a plurality of recording units within a recorder, wherein each recording unit handles a separate group of input signals. The time sequence is provided by a multiplexer controller and is common to each group. The plurality of recording units after recording the signals provide them in the groups in which they were received to respective demultiplexers. A demultiplex controller that receives 2 timing signals from the multiplex controller via the recorder supplies timing signals to the plurality of demultiplexers for reconstruction of the original input signals.

An apparatus is provided for simulating a planar wavefront propagating at anown frequency and incident upon an imaginary linear array of receiving elements at a known angle of incidence. A master clock generates a clock signal at a selected frequency. A frequency divisor and time delay divisor are generated based upon the master clock's frequency, spacing between the receiving elements, frequency of propagation, angle of incidence, and wavefront propagation speed. Frequency generation counters are provided such that each is connected to receive the master clock signal and the frequency divisor. A time delay counter is connected to receive the master clock signal and the time delay divisor to generate a pulse every T seconds where T is the time difference associated with receiving the planar wavefront at any two adjacent receiving elements. A delay enable shift register is connected to the time delay counter to receive the generated pulse every T seconds. Enable lines of the shift register are successively set HIGH in response to the generated pulse. Each of the enable lines is connected to a corresponding one of the frequency generation counters. In this way, a signal is generated at the known frequency of propagation at each one of the corresponding frequency generation counters when its enable line is set HIGH.
