An episode of the Coloquio de los perros, like ‘the bribe of Berganza’ (or, according to Cervantine sentence, “las dadivas de la negra”), could be researched for, if we mean to explore two different ways, that is, in a general sense and in its most specific aspects. Thus, such episode would show the features of Berganza’s speech, which suggests a certain ‘humanistic’ image of himself, very different from Cipion’s probably ‘humanism’. In the other hand, ‘Bergancian’ usus loquendi would have been elaborated from various Latin influences, whose reception could be managed by Renaissance paremiologist’s exegesis (for instance Polidorus or Erasmus, however our main purpose is based on Polydorian source as simply hypothesis): in fact, an adage in Latin (habet bovem in lingua) is used by the dog (even translated into Spanish language as “este tiene el buey en la lengua”).

Whereas traditional social and health histories have viewed the garments of early modern patients accessing hospital care as evidence of their poverty, this article reinterprets the meaning of patient clothing in the context of a venereal disease hospital in Toledo, Spain, in the seventeenth century. Patients carefully selected what they wore as they entered the hospital to produce certain effects on local audiences. Thus, these choices can be understood as body scripts meant to be read in certain ways rather than mere reflections of actual social status. In a context of gendered and social pressures associated with women's sexuality, female syphilitic patients wore garments meant to emphasize respectability and thereby avoid a loss of reputation.

This paper expresses certain dissatisfaction with the manner in which the Buscon has been related to the fiction literature of this period. The main aim is to demonstrate some connections with texts of that epoch that reveal the effects the publication of Cervantes’ Quixote had. There repercussions are shown in verbal expressions, narrative sequences, characters and related texts as a consequence of specific literary and ideological elements. The paper analyses the influence of Cervantes on Quevedo’ picaresque novel, through different authors such as Salas Barbadillo or Avellaneda. This fact has a consequence in the problem of dating Quevedo’s novel, because, as the result of the research, the author asserts that it should be delayed as far as 1615.

L’objet de ce travail est d’etudier l’evolution du concept de decorum et sa systematisation a travers les «theories du style» du point de vue de la poetique, de la rhetorique et de l’exegese litteraire. A cette fin, nous analysons d’abord les differentes formulations theoriques sur le style elaborees par les grecs, en pretant une attention particuliere a l’ecole peripateticienne. Nous nous interessons ensuite aux auteurs latins de traites de rhetorique et de poetique, ainsi qu’a la reception des auteurs classiques durant la latinite tardive et le Moyen Âge. Nous etudions enfin la survivance des idees classiques sur le style chez les theoriciens et les auteurs d’œuvres litteraires du Siecle d’Or espagnol, ce qui constitue la part essentielle de notre travail. Nous examinons en particulier le cas du roman picaresque qui, en s’eloignant des conventions associees au decorum, confere a ce genre une originalite sans precedent dans la prose de fiction occidentale.

The current paper deals with the study of the printing corrections that were made to the first edition of La picara Justina . To do so, eleven copies of the editio princeps have been analyzed. The analysis of several copies not only allows us to explain the meaning of several passages, but also to draw some conclusions on the orthography of that period, the calligraphy of the printer’s manuscript and the typology of the mistakes that were made by the composers. Also, the comparative analysis might show some light on the possible participation of the author during the editing process in the Printing House.

This study focuses on the narrative song generally known as La Buenaventura. As I try to show from the comparative analysis of almost a hundred oral samples of different origins, despite spreading recently and through loose folds, this song experimented an interesting process of traditionalization. This is observable at the level of the discourse, the configuration of the intrigue and the intention, as well as in the contaminations and links with other songs and romances of the traditional repertoire.
