Efficient foreign gene expression in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii mediated by an endogenous intron

TL;DR: The results demonstrate that stable high-level expression of a foreign gene in Chlamydomonas is possible, and highlight a potential role of introns as modulators of gene expression in this alga.
Journal ArticleDOI

The bacterial phleomycin resistance gene ble as a dominant selectable marker in Chlamydomonas.

TL;DR: A chimeric gene composed of the coding sequence of theble gene fromStreptoalloteichus hindustanus fused to the 5′ and 3′ untranslated regions of theChlamydomonas reinhardtii nuclear geneRBCS2 has been constructed as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genetic engineering of eukarygtic algae: progress and prospects

TL;DR: The requirements for successful transformation of a given algal species are discussed, the progress made in the manipulation of green algae, diatoms, and red algae are reviewed, and future prospects for the engineering of biologically and commercially important algae are considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Site-directed mutagenesis of PsaA residue W693 affects phylloquinone binding and function in the photosystem I reaction center of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii.

TL;DR: Results provide support for the hypothesis that W693 has a role in poising the redox potential of A(1)/A(1)(*-) so it can reduce F(x), and they indirectly provide evidence for electron transfer along the PsaA-side branch of cofactors in PSI.
