Adaptive interpolation is performed by apparatus operating upon a digitized image signal obtained from an image sensor having color photosites that generate a plurality of color values, but only one color per photosite. A digital processor obtains gradient values from the differences between luminance values in vertical and horizontal image directions. The gradient values are compared to a programmable threshold in order to select one of the directions as the preferred orientation for the interpolation of additional luminance values. The interpolation is then performed upon values selected to agree with the preferred orientation.

In another aspect, the method and system include associating a component or a data entity of a device with presence information such that the component or the data entity corresponds to a first of the presence service clients. In this aspect, the method and system also include providing a presentity for the first presence service client. A second of the presence service clients corresponds to a user. Each presentity communicates with a presence service on behalf of the first and second presence service clients.

System and method for utilizing contact information, presence information and device activity

We propose a new method for color demosaicing based on a mathematical model of spatial multiplexing of color. We demonstrate that a one-color per pixel image can be written as the sum of luminance and chrominance. In case of a regular arrangement of colors, such as with the Bayer color filter array (CFA), luminance and chrominance are well localized in the spatial frequency domain. Our algorithm is based on selecting the luminance and chrominance signal in the Fourier domain. This simple and efficient algorithm gives good results, comparable with the Bayesian approach to demosaicing. Additionally, this model allows us to demonstrate that the Bayer CFA is the most optimal arrangement of three colors on a square grid. Visual artifacts of the reconstruction can be clearly explained as aliasing between luminance and chrominance. Finally, this framework also allows us to control the trade-off between algorithm efficiency and quality in an explicit manner.

Color Demosaicing by Estimating Luminance and Opponent Chromatic Signals in the Fourier Domain

Blurring along edges between regions of different color characteristics in interpolated color images is avoided by a signal processing technique that segments the fully sampled channel into a plurality of contiguous image regions of respectively different image characteristics. The segmentation mechanism is such that, within a respective region, the fully sampled signal values are associated with a common image characteristic. A boundary between adjacent regions occurs where the segmentation mechanism has inferred the presence of an edge between sub-sampled locations and has assigned signal values for successive sampling locations of the fully sampled channel on opposite sides of the edge in accordance with different image characteristics. After the image has been segmented, within each region, signal values for non-sampled locations of a sub-sampled channel are interpolated in accordance with a predetermined relationship between fully sampled and sub-sampled signal values at a sampling location in that region whereat each of fully sampled and sub-sampled signal values have been produced. In addition, more than one segmentation mechanism may be employed. In this case, the image processing performance of each segmentation scheme is weighted. Interpolation values based upon each segmentation scheme are then combined as a weighted average.
