The mathematician's brain

David Ruelle
TL;DR: The aim of this book is to clarify the role of mathematics in the lives of students and teachers and to inspire them to think more critically about the role that mathematics plays in the authors' lives.
Journal ArticleDOI

Integral representation of states on a C∗-algebra

TL;DR: In this article, the central decomposition and ergodic decomposition are associated with an Abelian von Neumann algebra B in the commutant π(U )′ of the image of U in the representation canonically associated with ϱ.
Journal Article

Extremal invariant states

TL;DR: In this article, an integral decomposition of a state into states of lower symmetry is obtained which is relevant to the study of spontaneously broken symmetries which occur in equilibrium statistical mechanics such as existence of crystals, ferromagnetic states, etc.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analyticity of Green's Functions of Dilute Quantum Gases

TL;DR: In this article, reduced density matrices of quantum gases are used to obtain theorems on the existence and analyticity of Green's functions, which are then used to prove the existence of the Green's function.
