Training versus treating the psychiatric resident.

Abstract: The importance of the distinction between supervision and psychotherapy is examined, utilizing experience in several residency training programs and theoretical literature. The tendency to confound personal and professional issues in supervision is examined in the light of institutional pressures for control of psychotherapists in training.
