The systems based on intelligent sensors are currently expanding, due to theirs functions and theirs performances of intelligence: transmitting and receiving data in real-time, computation and processing algorithms, metrology remote, diagnostics, automation and storage measurements…The radio frequency wireless communication with its multitude offers a better solution for data traffic in this kind of systems. The mains objectives of this paper is to present a solution of the problem related to the selection criteria of a better wireless communication technology face up to the constraints imposed by the intended application and the evaluation of its key features. The comparison between the different wireless technologies (Wi- Fi, Wi-Max, UWB, Bluetooth, ZigBee, ZigBeeIP, GSM/GPRS) focuses on their performance which depends on the areas of utilization. Furthermore, it shows the limits of their characteristics. Study findings can be used by the developers/ engineers to deduce the optimal mode to integrate and to operate a system that guarantees quality of communication, minimizing energy consumption, reducing the implementation cost and avoiding time constraints.

Comparative Performance Analysis of Wireless Communication Protocols for Intelligent Sensors and Their Applications

One of the major issues in wireless sensor networks is developing a routing protocol which has a significant impact on the overall lifetime of the sensor network. This paper presents a new version of LEACH protocol called VLEACH which aims to reduce energy consumption within the wireless network. The proposed protocol uses simulation model. The simulation tool we used for the purpose is MATLAB (version 7.10). Simulation results show that the New Improved V LEACH routing protocol reduces energy consumption and increases the total lifetime of the WSN compared to the LEACH protocol .

V leach: an energy efficient communication protocol for wsn

The low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol is one of the most adaptive protocols used in the wireless sensor networks (WSNs). LEACH is a hierarchical model that provides a powerful strategy for energy balancing, using head rotations. However, the original LEACH protocol suffers from many drawbacks and many researchers proposed new methods to mitigate them. In this paper, we propose two approaches based on an energy model to enhance cluster heads (CHs) selection method through not only minimizing the power consumption of network nodes, but also minimizing the number of CHs. The first proposed approach effectively selects a cluster head that has the lowest power consumption when communicating with other nodes. In addition to what is proposed in the first approach, the idea of incorporating the shortest distance has been considered in the second proposed approach. This significantly decreases the energy consumption and increases the lifetime of associated nodes.

LEACH enhancements for wireless sensor networks based on energy model

In recent years, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted many researchers due to their widely usage in a wide range of applications. One of the most important problems in these networks is energy consumption that has a direct effect on network lifetime. Clustering is one of the most important solutions in order to overcome the problem. Energy resource limitation is a fundamental problem in WSNs and clustering protocols provide suitable procedures in order to enhance network lifetime. However, they impose high energy consumption on cluster heads (CH), and therefore, in each round, the protocol should reform clusters and change CH in order to enhance network lifetime. Although these protocols are proper for clustering, do not guarantee suitable CH selection. In this paper, a novel energy-efficient method is proposed using fuzzy logic and three parameters including the amount of energy in CH, distance from CH to base station, and the number of connections in CH. In fact, we focus on the cluster formation process. The proposed model is compared to the well-known low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy protocol. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol improves network lifetime.

A new clustering approach in wireless sensor networks using fuzzy system

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) comprise of large number of sensor nodes, which sense and measure various physical phenomena related parameters and transmit the measured data towards the base station by making use of the neighbouring nodes acting as relay nodes. In order to extend the lifetime of a WSN application, it is necessary to distribute the energy dissipated among the nodes evenly in the network and improve the overall system performance. The lifetime of network depends on the underlying routing protocol. This paper presents various energy-efficient routing protocols being widely used. A performance comparison of direct transmission protocol, MTE protocol and LEACH protocol and improved LEACH and multi-level LEACH protocols like MLEACH protocol, DD-LEACH protocol and TL-LEACH protocol is presented. This work also proposes an energy efficient and improved multi-level LEACH protocol and DD-TL-LEACH protocol. Energy efficient m- level LEACH protocol

A wireless sensor network with a large number of sensor nodes can be used as an effective tool for gathering data in various situations. One of the major issues in wireless sensor networks is developing an energy- efficient routing protocol which has a significant impact on the overall lifetime of the sensor network. This paper focuses on reducing the power consumption of wireless sensor networks. Therefore, a communication protocol named LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) is modified. We propose a clustering routing protocol that partitions the network into clusters; the cluster contains, CH, sub-CH (the node that will become a CH of the cluster in case of CH dies), cluster nodes; thus extends network lifetime. We have conducted simulation-based evaluations to compare the performance of the proposed protocol against Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH). Our experiment results show that this protocol outperforms LEACH in terms of network lifetime and power consumption minimization.
