Secret Sharing (SS) scheme divides a secret image into shadow images (referred to as shares) in a way that requires the shadows in a certain privileged coalition for the secret reconstruction. However, the secret image cannot be revealed if they are not combined in a prescribed way. In this paper, the evolution of the traditional secret sharing scheme to the contemporary of secret sharing scheme has been presented based on its technology adoption. The basic comparison between the traditional secret sharing scheme and Visual cryptography is presented. The image-based share generation process has been explained in the context of pixel sharing patterns and its process. The reconstruction image is obtained by the XOR /OR Boolean operation. The threshold-based share generation schemes are explained mathematically and the comparative analysis of these schemes also presented.

An Antiquity to the contemporary of Secret Sharing Scheme

The paper covers brief study about some of the latest research trends in digital image watermarking. The sensitive images are the images that generally carries high amount of information or very sensitive information. Since the use of sensitive images for information exchange is increasing, watermarking for these images is growing area of research. Use of Visual Cryptography in Digital Image Watermarking is also a research trend since it provides various benefits while dealing with sensitive images. The sensitive images might be victim of tampering during the transmission. Detection of any kind of tampering which is referred as image authentication is highly required for these images. Here, we have studied about some of the latest tamper detection and recovery approaches as well as some of the watermarking approaches with Visual Cryptography mechanism.

A review on methods for image authentication and visual cryptography in digital image watermarking

Xing et al. proposed a digital watermarking scheme based on visual cryptography and the extended codebook in order to eliminate ambiguity problem. However, there exists still an ambiguity problem such that the watermark can be extracted from other owner's watermarked image. In order to solve this problem, we propose a new digital watermarking scheme with authentication. The proposed scheme is based on a lossless codebook which degrades a contrast of watermarked image and does not exist an ambiguity problem. Also, the proposed scheme provides authentication because of the utilization of characteristics between original and other images. In order to evaluate robustness and ambiguity problem, several watermarking attacks performed. As the results, the proposed scheme provides robustness against several watermarking attacks and eliminates an ambiguity problem.
