With its origins in logistics, Supply Chain Management (SCM) concept is covering all managerial aspects of the flow of materials and information from source to customer, across the entire range of materials handling and movement functions, and throughout an organization and its supply channels. In tourism, these issues relate to the whole process of providing tourism services from sourcing of raw materials, products or different services) to supply and distribution, and SCM performance can ultimately be measured by customer satisfaction. Thus, an important component of tourism SCM is the demand management. Therefore, this study aims to highlight the features of the concept of SCM and demand management in tourism, with an emphasis on a hotel chain in Romania, based on research and analysis of tourist traffic indicators as well as assessment of customers satisfaction. The sources of information are the internal company statistics, as well as various hotels booking websites that offer customers’ feedback. The results of the study provide a snapshot of how the hotel demand management can influence SCM performance in tourism.

Supply Chain Management Performance in Tourism. Continental Hotels Chain Case

This paper proposes a research on the development of supply chain management processes in Romania. The main objective of the paper is to present an overview of the development level for logistics services market in Romania, by analyzing representative statistical data in the supply chain management domain. The research methodology focuses on collection of statistical data about Romanian logistics sector, especially from official data published by the INS, identifying key profile companies operating in Romania and analyze their development over the past five years, using indicators such as quantity of logistic spaces put into operation annual, occupancy rate, sale price / rental, logistics services for customers and other related services. This information are taken from the websites of the companies and from studies made public by consulting companies. The quality of the logistics services offered to customers by companies in Romania is being compared to the European average on various specific categories. In this respect, we used the logistic performance index that summarizes the statistical aspects of the supply chain management at national and international level, using a set of predefined criteria. The results of the research concern the positioning Romania in terms of logistics in relation to other European countries and propose solutions applicable to improving their quality. The preoccupation for identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency of supply chain management leads to analysis of information systems for supply chain management, which are designed to facilitate communication both between company departments and between it and its partners in the extended supply chain. Final remarks present the advantages of using such a system, and provide information regarding the supply and demand on the market in Romania.

Logistics Market Statistics and Opinions about the Supply Chain Management in Romania

The proposed empirical research uses a national sample of 19 Romanian companies from various industries to estimate de utilities for financial and non-financial performance measures used in Romanian supply chains. Empirical findings show that national supply chain measurement systems are balanced, using both financial and non-financial performance measures. The high estimated utility corresponding to indicators measuring logistic costs provides evidence that inter-functional and inter-organization integration in supply chains at national level are realized through operational excellence. Achieving the full potential of supply chain integration requires that management fosters both integration of operations and integration of customers.

Performance Metrics in Supply Chain Management. Evidence from Romanian Economy

The e-commerce can lead to cost reduction in case of a supplier in many different ways and can subsequently increase the competition potential of an enterprise. The e-commerce generates on average lower costs than those coming up if it were to reduce them by considering their components. As for the competition mechanism, such changes produce significant modifications within a market economy. The Internet renders the possibility of creating business contacts in a rapid and geographically independent manner as well as of obtaining data and of realizing transactions within world economy.

Electronic cost alternatives for e-commerce

The aim of this article is to study the tendencies of the transition of traditional trade networks into the e-commerce. On the basis of statistical data, the growing tendency of expanding the trading network of traditional stores through the establishment of online stores has been proved. Research results show that the Ukrainian online trading market is characterized by the development of new product categories such as food and household chemicals. The article provides a schematic list of spheres of e-commerce development influence, which undergo inevitable changes in connection with the popularization of on-line purchases. In this key becomes more actual building of smart supply chains which helps to manage product moving on its way from the production to the finish consumer. When companies are switching from traditional to e-commerce networks, the issue of benchmarking the effectiveness of off-line and online stores appears. In this context, Key Performance Indicators have been analyzed to measure the effectiveness of the online sales and marketing activities of new online sales outlets. The basic system of criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of newly created online stores is proposed.

Mutual Influence of Traditional Trading Chains and E-commerce: Trends and Metrics

Supply chain management SCM is the integration and management of supply chain organizations and activities through collaboration, effective business processes and high levels of information sharing. The supply chain concept has become a concern due to global competition and increasing customer demand for value. Thus, the information must be available in real time across the supply chain and this can not be achieved without an integrated software system for supply chain management. Supply chain members have to collaborate, sharing information for improving customers satisfaction. Web technologies enable enterprises to become more effective, to trade with suppliers and customers over the Internet in real time. For this, businesses have to integrate their information systems and applications with those of their suppliers and customers. First, companies have to redesign their supply chain to create an integrated value system and afterwards, companies can develop business to business applications across supply chain structure for the optimization of the supply chain . The implementation of the supply chain information systems in companies facilitates an increase in their competitiveness and their profits.
