A system and method for accessing, controlling and monitoring a data processing device in which a video raster signal from the data processing device is analyzed to determine the information displayed on a video display monitor attached to the data processing device is used. The video raster signal is converted to a digital form and a cyclic redundancy check is performed on the digital data to determine the information contained in the video raster signal and to generate a compressed representation of that information. The information may then easily and quickly be transmitted to a remote location for analysis and review. Additionally, commands from the remote location can be transmitted to the system to control the data processing device.

System and method for remote monitoring and operation of personal computers

Programmable apparatus for digital processing of video signals from multiple sources converted to digital format to provide real-time multiple simultaneous special video effects and suitable for direct interface to a conventional microcomputer bus such as an Apple Macintosh II NuBus. The apparatus includes a matrix of multipliers to do real-time video processing permitting special effects such as fading between at least two video image sources, as well as a priority resolver to control display on a pixel by pixel basis of more than ten sources based upon dynamically programmable priority. In addition, a programmable multiple range thresholder, a hardware window generator capable of generating multiple simultaneous windows, a color look up table and optional image capture capabilities are provided. The apparatus also provides for a light pen input, genlocking and a range of special video effects including zooming, mosaicing, panning and blending.

Programmable digital video processing system

A remote access device is disclosed for capturing, digitizing and communicating video signals from a host computer to a remote computer. The remote computer returns keyboard and mouse signals through the remote access device to the host computer to control the host computer as though the remote keyboard and mouse were directly connected to the host computer. The remote access device includes a circuit module interface for the host computer that allows the remote access device to operate independently of any operating system characteristics associated with the host computer.

System and method for accessing and operating personal computers remotely

A pipeline video decoder and decompression system handles a plurality of separately encoded bit streams arranged as a single serial bit stream of digital bits and having separately encoded pairs of control codes and corresponding data carried in the serial bit stream. The pipeline system employs a plurality of interconnected stages to decode and decompress the single bit stream, including a start code detector. When in a search mode, the start code detector searches for a specific start code corresponding to one of multiple compression standards. The start code detector responding to the single serial bit stream generates control tokens and data tokens. A respective one of the tokens includes a plurality of data words. Each data word has an extension bit which indicates a presence of additional words therein. The data words are thereby unlimited in number. A token decode circuit positioned in certain of the stages recognizes certain of the tokens as control tokens pertinent to that stage and passes unrecognized control tokens to a succeeding stage. A reconfigurable decode and parser processing means positioned in certain of the stages is responsive to a recognized control token and reconfigures a particular stage to handle an identified data token. Methods relating to the decoder and decompression system include processing steps relating thereto.

Multistandard video decoder and decompression system for processing encoded bit streams including a video formatter and methods relating thereto

The present invention includes a Couch Link system which provides for a remote keyboard and a remote pointer to control a PC. The PC generates a PC monitor display and sounds, and the invention projects the same display image and play the sounds on a television. The remote keyboard and remote pointer may be in one room with the television, while the PC is in another room. The Relink system of the present invention further permits the PC to not merely generate and project its PC monitor display on the TV but, also, to control the TV's functions, including program selection, viewing, recording, and scheduling.

A computer based video/graphics display system includes a computer system (22) having a graphics generator (24). A video signal from a video source (28) is fed through an input stage (26) to an asynchronous converter (30). The converter (30) synchronises the video signal to the graphics generator (24). The output from the asynchronous converter (30) and the output from the graphics generator (24) are fed to a fading/mixing matrix (34). The combined signal output from the fading/mixing matrix is fed to a computer display monitor (14). The system allows the mixing or windowing of computer graphics and a video image on a common display.

A base board 10 carries four daughter cards 12a, 12b, 12c and 12d. Three of the daughter boards 12a, 12b, 12c are stacked on the front side of the base board 10, and the fourth daughter board 12d is carried on the rear side of the base board 10. Modifying means are provided on the daughter cards for modifying addresses sent from the base card to the daughter cards. This allows the daughter cards 12 to be identical, and still enables individual addressing of the daughter boards according to their position in the stack.
