Two unexpected coumarin derivatives from tissue cultures of compositae species

TL;DR: Tissue cultures of Tanacetum parthenium, T. vulgare and Artemisia vulgaris all produced significant amounts of scopoletin and isofraxidin together with stigmasterol and sitosterol under a wide variety of conditions but none of the lines accumulated detectable quantities of those components, e.g. terpenoids and spiroketal enol ethers, characteristic of the parent plant.

Ability of plant callus cultures to synthesize and accumulate lower terpenoids

TL;DR: Callus cultures derived from seven oil-producing plants have been maintained under different regimes of media, temperature and illumination, and have been assayed for ability to synthesize and to accumulate mono- and sesqui-terpenes, implying that callus cultures may be a convenient source of biomass for studies on the enzymes of terpenoid biosynthesis.

TL;DR: The results suggest that the correlation of retention of the pro-4S hydrogen atom of mevalonate with formation of a cis-substituted double bond, such as has been found in certain higher terpenoids, does not apply to the biosynthesis of monoterpenes.

Biosynthesis of geraniol and nerol in cell-free extracts of Tanacetum vulgare

TL;DR: The inference that a pool of protein-bonded DMAPP or its biogenetic equivalent was present was supported by the demonstration that geraniol and nerol biosynthesised in the absence of the inhibitors were predominantly labelled in the moiety derived from IPP.
