Proceedings ArticleDOI
Use of satellite derived vegetation indices for the detection of water pipeline leakages in semiarid areas
Athos Agapiou,L. Toulios,Kyriacos Themistocleous,Skevi Perdikou,Dimitrios D. Alexakis,Apostolos Sarris,Giorgos Toulios,C.R.I. Clayton,Helena Phinikaridou,Andreas Manoli,Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluated the accuracy of the vegetation indices in detecting pipeline leakage events using the Landsat ETM+ multispectral images in a multi-temporal mode.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Geodiametris: an integrated geoinformatic approach for monitoring land pollution from the disposal of olive oil mill wastes
Dimitrios D. Alexakis,Apostolos Sarris,Nikos Papadopoulos,Pantelis Soupios,Maria Doula,Victor Cavvadias +5 more
TL;DR: The GEODIAMETRIS project as discussed by the authors developed integrated geoinformatic methodologies for performing monitoring of land pollution from the disposal of OOMW in the island of Crete -Greece.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Monitoring urban land cover with the use of satellite remote sensing techniques as a means of flood risk assessment in Cyprus
Dimitrios D. Alexakis,Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis,Athos Agapiou,Kyriacos Themistocleous,Adrianos Retalis +4 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight the need of digital mapping of urban sprawl in a catchment area in Cyprus and the assessment of its contribution to flood risk, and propose a knowledge-rule method based on spectral, texture and shape features in order to create efficient land use and land cover maps of the study area.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Variations of spectral signature profiles of wet and dry targets for supporting the detection of water-leakages using satellite data
Athos Agapiou,Kyriacos Themistocleous,Dimitrios D. Alexakis,Nikolas Kourtis,Apostolos Sarris,Skevi Perdikou,C.R.I. Clayton,Helena Phinikaridou,Andreas Manoli,Diofantos G. Hadjimitsis +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used the GER 1500 spectroradiometer for measuring the spectral signature values of three different targets: soil, vegetation and asphalt, which were then re-scaled to spectral bands of Landsat 5 TM and highlighted for all targets before and after moisture level were increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of water-induced soil erosion as a threat to cultural heritage sites: the case of Chania prefecture, Crete Island, Greece
Christos Polykretis,Christos Polykretis,Dimitrios D. Alexakis,Manolis Grillakis,Athos Agapiou,Branka Cuca,Nikos Papadopoulos,Apostolos Sarris,Apostolos Sarris +8 more
