Abstract This study explores the potentials of digital transformation for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with emphasis on SDG 4 and SDG 9 in Nigeria. The study adopts a conceptual approach, reviewing existing literature to explore the topic from various views of authors on the issue. It focuses on the contextual factors such as stakeholder input to the process of the implementation of digitalisation and SDGs 4 and 9 which focuses on educational development at all levels, industrial collaborations and improvements, respectively. The results indicate that digital transformation potentially enhances the attainment of SDGs 4 and 9, but this is mediated by the level of stakeholder commitment and e-governance performance. Part of the recommendation is the adoption of a multi-disciplinary approach to development-oriented digital transformation interventions for SDGs 4 and 9 in Nigeria, through a process of effective stakeholder engagement and transparent institutional signalling. The study draws research attention to the use of digital transformation for social development, especially in a developing economy such as Nigeria, to enhance the compendium of knowledge in the implementation of digital approach to the attainment of SDGs 4 and 9. It is also suggested for the government institutions to take further responsibility to provide a fair platform for the implementation of digital transformation and the attainment of SDGs 4 and 9 in Nigeria.

Digital transformation: a conceptual framing for attaining Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 9 in Nigeria

The more the technological and digital shift moves forward, the more are companies struggling to keep in touch with the latest innovations and state-of-the-art technologies. Although companies differ regarding their transformation approach in detail, there is a rising demand for digital transformation maturity models to determine the status of a company’s digital transformation to cope with digitalization. In order to provide companies with the opportunity to uncover the areas that are lacking behind in the digitalization process or self-assess their current transformation status, we pursue the goal to develop a digital transformation maturity model fitting to IT companies. The artifact was developed in collaboration with an IT company from the energy sector. This case serves as a first and exemplary application scenario. Based on literature on digital transformation maturity models and eight expert interviews, we iteratively designed and evaluated a maturity model tailored to IT companies. As a result, we synthesized five dimensions: culture, ecosystem, operations, governance, and strategy. Each dimension consists of further criteria specifying the respective dimension. Our artifact shows a high fit with the needs of the company under investigation and can serve as a blueprint for other IT companies.

Development of a Digital Transformation Maturity Model for IT Companies

Taking into account that female-owned companies are an emerging economic force, this paper is discussing the phenomena of digital transformation from the gender perspective. In the first part, we present the definition of digital transformation and overview of literature that was used. In addition to this, the stages of the digital transformation process are highlighted, as well as potential biases which companies could face, but also the benefits arising from the process of digital transformation and the tools used to identify the existing digital gap in companies. Furthermore, certain key characteristics of women-led businesses that we consider, at the same time, to be factors that enable faster digitization are presented. The third part is a discussion of the results obtained by statistical analysis. The paper uses a simple OLS regression analysis to test the impact of digital transformation on women-owned companies' performance, as well as a T-test of independent samples to identify potential differences in business indicators, depending on the number of years a company has been undergoing digital transformation. Research indicates that there is a positive impact of digital transformation on the performance of women-owned businesses. Also, it was confirmed that there is a significant difference in the level of product and service quality, product and service development capacity, productivity, and overall performance levels between enterprises undergoing digital transformation for less than two years and those who have been in the process for more than two years in favor of the latter. Finally, we summarize the findings of the research, concluding that digital transformation is a chance to improve the business performance of a group of businesses that are considered to have limited access to markets and sources of funding, such as women-owned businesses.

The influence of digital transformation on business performance: Evidence of the women-owned companies

This study examines the variables of digital maturity of companies. The framework for enterprise architectures Archimate 3.0 is used to compare the variables. The variables are assigned to the six layers of architecture: Strategy, Business Environment, Applications, Technology, Physical and Implementation and Migration. On the basis of a literature overview, 15 “digital maturity models” with a total of 147 variables are analyzed. The databases Scopus, EBSCO – Business Source Premier and ProQuest are used for this purpose.
