This paper systematically reviews and critiques all the scholarship presented to date in the Journal of Biblical Integration in Business which is specifically focused on business practice. We employ a conceptual framework which parses the sources of normative advice and attempts to delineate the type of normative advice as being for our heads, hearts or hands. A particular focus is given to the “hands” portion of the framework when we look at the various normative perspectives regarding how business should be practiced by Christians. We also consider the sources for those perspectives (e.g., general versus specific revelation), the role of practitioners in their development, and the breadth of areas still in need of study. Finally, we suggest specific actions that consider the limited resources focused on explicit Christian scholarship, the particular (but not exclusive) Christian call to scholarship that matters in practice, the variety of backgrounds and skills aspiring Christian scholars possess, and the unmet needs of practitioners that only Christian business scholars may uniquely meet. We challenge ourselves to be more engaged, more empirical, and more explicit in our Christian business scholarship.

Leading Before, During, and After a Major Organizational Transition.

This paper presents a model for student transformation: spiritually, intellectually, and professionally. The implementation of this model has been supported by a paradigm shift in business faculty and staff who have embraced the challenge of developing servant leaders through an integrated process of curricular, co-curricular, and experiential learning and transformational teaching. The authors share the evolution in thinking that generated this model and the related approach to teaching and learning, along with some concrete examples of its implementation and lessons learned along the way. They also discuss anticipated next steps to further integrate the model into teaching and learning efforts and to assess its effectiveness in achieving intended learning and growth outcomes.

The Development of an Integrated Experiential Model for Student Transformation

This study identifies the five most frequently cited biblical passages in the first ten years of The JBIB and analyzes how these passages have been used. Our review gives rise to an overarching framework that serves as a foundation for future research. Four themes are highlighted: 1) the contrast between the ways of God vs. the ways of the world; 2) the renewing of our minds in order to transform the ways of the world; 3) the call for practical acts of servant leadership to manifest the ways of God; and 4) the importance of humility and nonjudgmental discernment. Implications for future research are discussed.
