Methods and apparatus for making and using tools, for example concrete cutting blades, may use laminations. They may also include inserts, such as structural inserts, damping inserts and fluid flow elements. Fluid flow elements may include a tube, a transition element including an inlet fitting, a fluid pressure containment structure inserted into the channel of the blade, an added material resistant to effects of the fluid including plastics, coatings and films, and other structures. Additional nozzle structures may be included. Methods and apparatus for making and using tools including concrete cutting blades having improved damping characteristics may include inserts, plugs and other structures, including those made from materials softer or more ductile than the tool material. Methods and apparatus for making and using tools including concrete cutting blades having improved flow directing capabilities may include inserts or other structures having vanes, foil structures, fluid diverting surfaces, baffles or other structures for affecting fluid flow in the area of the tool.

A hand-held power tool for driving a cutting or grinding working tool ( 11 ) includes a running gear ( 13 ) having a roller ( 15 ) and a support section ( 14 ) for supporting the roller ( 15 ), and a locking device ( 20 ) for locking the roller ( 15 ) against rotation relative to the support section ( 14 ).

Hand-held power tool

A saw for cutting an extruded, prestressed concrete slab having a length, a width and a thickness includes a framework assembly movable along the length of the concrete slab. A carriage system is rotatably supported from the framework assembly about a first vertical axis perpendicular to the concrete slab and is slidably mounted on the framework assembly for movement back and forth across the width of the concrete slab. A cutting arrangement including a rotary cutter is suspended from the carriage system over the concrete slab. The cutting arrangement is movable up and down along a second vertical axis substantially parallel to the first vertical axis and is also slidable along the carriage system. A control arrangement has a first stage enabling the framework assembly to travel at variable speeds over a first range, and a second stage enabling the framework assembly to travel at variable speeds over a second range of speeds less than the first range as the cutting arrangement longitudinally cuts the concrete slab.

Systems and methods of transferring loads between adjacent cast-in-place slabs, such as concrete slabs, and for accurately positioning dowels between adjacent sections of slabs are provided. A generally planar plate-type dowel is used which may be positioned within a cutaway in a preexisting slab of concrete. The dowel is shaped to generally conform to the shape of the cutaway, which is made by a saw blade. Once the dowel is positioned within the preexisting slab, a new slab is poured adjacent the preexisting slab. Rubber seals are included on the edges of the dowels to provide spacing or a gap between the dowel and the preexisting slab to allow for lateral independent movement of the adjacent slabs, and to prevent concrete from the newly poured second slab from entering into the gap. A saw unit for making a generally planar cut horizontally into an edge of a hardened concrete slab is also provided.

System and method for concrete slab connection

A pavement cutting machine (30) having a rotary cutting wheel (34) which is controlled by a clutch (32) on either the drive shaft (92) of the engine or a driven shaft (84) of the cutting wheel (34) with activation by a deadman's switch (36). The machine (30) also includes a stand (40) that enables the entire machine (30) to be tipped forwardly about its support wheels (44) to expose the cutting wheel (34) so it can be serviced. The clutch (32) preferably is an electromagnetic clutch mounted to the engine drive shaft (92) that is selectively energized by a deadman's switch (36) on a handle (46) of the machine (30) that is constructed and arranged to close upon an operator (48) gripping handle grips (120) of the handle (46). When energized or engaged, a pulley (86) of the clutch (32) rotates in unison with the drive shaft (92). When the handle grips (120) are released, the clutch (32) is deenergized or disengaged, decoupling the cutting wheel (34) from the engine (90).

Pavement cutting machine

A concrete saw is provided having an engine aligned along a longitudinal axis of the saw frame to minimize the width of the saw and provide a more balanced system. A clutch assembly is attached to a forward end of the engine to disengage the saw blade without stopping the engine. A right angle gear box is provided proximate the driven side of the clutch assembly to transfer driving rotational forces from the engine to a transversely aligned driven shaft. The driven shaft includes drive pulleys mounted upon opposite ends thereof, which are aligned with driven pulleys mounted upon opposite ends of a blade support shaft and linked to one another via multiple belts. This alignment evenly balances the load transfer while facilitating the use of vibration isolators between the engine, gear box and frame. A hydraulically controlled depth stop mechanism is included for setting a maximum cut depth. The engine speed is controlled by an electronic governor. A multi-speed transmission is included to afford high and low ranges for the saw. A single control lever is provided to shift between high and low ranges, between forward and reverse directions, and to raise and lower the saw.

Self propelled saw

A self propelled concrete saw compensates for blade cutting resistance, for example by adjusting a movable drive assembly. An actuator may be used to move the drive assembly, for example through the operation of a control switch by an operator.

A handle support and adjustment assembly for a saw allows the handle to be adjusted in length and/or angle relative to the saw.

Concrete saw handle bars

A bladeshaft assembly for a cutting saw includes a hollow tubular housing member. A shaft member extends coaxially through the tubular housing member and has at least one end that extends outwardly of the tubular housing member. At least one bearing member is disposed in surrounding relation to a portion of the shaft member. A seal is provided for sealing around the at least one end of the shaft member. A pulley member is mounted on the at least one end of the shaft member that extends outwardly of the tubular housing member. A tapered fit is formed cooperatively between the pulley member and the end of the shaft member so as to enable a press fit relation between the pulley member and the end of the shaft member. Additionally, first and second gauge points are formed respectively between the pulley member and the at least one end of said shaft member; the first and second gauge points engaging one another so as to establish a predetermined placement of the pulley member on the end of the shaft member.
