Fault tree analysis

Fault tree analysis (FTA) is a very prominent method to analyze the risks related to safety and economically critical assets, like power plants, airplanes, data centers and web shops. FTA methods comprise of a wide variety of modelling and analysis techniques, supported by a wide range of software tools. This paper surveys over 150 papers on fault tree analysis, providing an in-depth overview of the state-of-the-art in FTA. Concretely, we review standard fault trees, as well as extensions such as dynamic FT, repairable FT, and extended FT. For these models, we review both qualitative analysis methods, like cut sets and common cause failures, and quantitative techniques, including a wide variety of stochastic methods to compute failure probabilities. Numerous examples illustrate the various approaches, and tables present a quick overview of results.

Their extension with common reliability patterns, such as spare management, functional dependencies, and sequencing -- known as dynamic fault trees DFTs -- has an adverse effect on scalability, prohibiting the analysis of complex, industrial cases by, e.g., probabilistic model checkers. This paper presents a novel, fully automated reduction technique for DFTs. The key idea is to interpret DFTs as directed graphs and exploit graph rewriting to simplify them. We present a collection of rewrite rules, address their correctness, and give a simple heuristic to determine the order of rewriting. Experiments on a large set of benchmarks show substantial DFT simplifications, yielding state space reductions and timing gains of up to two orders of magnitude.

Fault trees on a diet: automated reduction by graph rewriting

VR panoramic image is an image technology that covers a wide range of scenes. Its imaging range is much larger than that of traditional imaging systems, and it can fully reflect all the information of the imaging space. Although the multi-feature fusion method has been studied for a long time, the methods of multi-feature extraction, fusion and overall optimization have not been widely studied. In view of the shadow problem in VR panoramic images, this paper proposes a multi-feature fusion VR panoramic image shadow elimination algorithm, which uses HSV color features and LBP (Local Binary Pattern) / LSFP (Local Five Similarity Pattern) texture features to obtain shadow detection results and then obtains the final detection results by fusion. The experimental results prove that while ensuring a low missed detection rate, the false detection rate is greatly reduced. The comprehensive evaluation index Avg in this paper is improved by 3.4% compared with the shadow elimination algorithm based on a single feature. This paper proposes an image saliency detection algorithm and image detail enhancement algorithm based on multi-feature fusion. The final saliency map is obtained through linear fusion. Experiments prove that the image detail enhancement algorithm based on multi-feature fusion mentioned in this paper has achieved excellent results. In this paper, the performance of single feature fusion algorithm and multi-feature fusion algorithm are compared. The results show that the accuracy rate of multi-feature fusion algorithm based on HSV, LBP and LSFP is 93.39%, and the effect of multi-feature fusion is better than that of single feature.

Multi-Feature Fusion Algorithm in VR Panoramic Image Detail Enhancement Processing

According to the deficiency of traditional Markov chain approach in dynamic fault tree analysis, a new modular method for system reliability analysis is proposed. This paper focuses on dividing the fault tree of system into independent subtrees using a linear-time algorithm, and the processing method for different subtrees: Binary decision diagram solution for static subtrees and Bayesian Network solution for dynamic subtrees, respectively. In addition, an approach is also provided for mapping some dynamic logic gates into discrete-time Bayesian network. At last, the modular method has been applied to assess the reliability of a satellite key device and the results have shown that the proposed method can overcome the state explosion problem, and is useful for assessing the reliability of large and complex systems.

A New Assessment Method for System Reliability Based on Dynamic Fault Tree

The implementation of Fiber to the Curb (FTTC) scheme in China brings new chances for the development of intelligent transportation system (ITS) as well as the broadband access for vehicle to infrastructure (V2I) wireless communication. However, most V2I communication related research still focuses on specific analysis or optimization in either physics or protocol layer for information exchanges of the traditional data service requirements during recent years, which would not make the best of the bandwidth advantages brought by fiber access to the road side unit (RSU) even if those are important services for vehicles. In this paper, in the 5.9GHz frequency band, a dedicated optimized IEEE 802.11p protocol for physics layer has been proposed based on the basic definition for dedicated short range communication (DSRC) channel and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) multi carrier modulation standard in TD-LTE so as to make terminal users in vehicle enjoy multiple services and get higher data transmission rate in limited bandwidth. By analyzing the working mechanism in theory and simulation, the effectiveness of the proposed protocol has been proved.

Performance analysis of broadband access for vehicles based on dedicated optimized IEEE 802.11p protocol

At present, to assess the reliability of sophisticated system is hard or infeasible because of the complexities of the equipment configuration and its faults. This paper presents a method which overcomes the drawbacks of traditional fault tree analysis (FTA). Based on the thorough analysis of typical failure modes and influences of Non-Service air braking system in railway vehicle, the fault-tree of Non-Service air braking system is set up using fault tree analysis techniques and the assessment method for the reliability of Non-Service air braking system, combined with the index of the importance and the weight integration method based on the multi-objective decision making theory and subjective and objective integrated weights is put forward. The assessment examples show that the method can deduct the failure modes of Non-Service air braking system clearly, find out the weaknesses in time during the operation, reflect the influence degree of each fault modes. In addition, the calculating program is short and brief so that it is easy to develop and maintain. Therefore, the reliability assessment model can better support the overall analysis of Non-Service air braking system in the operation and our results revealed the method are suitable for the application in the research of the reliability evaluation.

Assessment model for the reliability of vehicle non-service brake system based on fault-tree analysis and meta-synthesis weight

The adoption of interleaver is one of the most important parts in Turbo encoder to realize its excellent performance. The input information sequences are permuted and so the burst errors in channel can be resisted by interleaver. After interleaving, the relativity of the checkout bits is reduced and the BER of the whole encoder can be decreased. In this text, the scheme of interleaver is improved to betterment the performance of the whole system.
