In this article we present and discuss the IT tools that Deutsche Telekom Innovation Laboratories use to support their corporate foresight activities. These tools are integrated into an approach that encompasses the discovery of change, interpretation, and triggering managerial responses. The overall system consists of a tool for scanning for weak signals on change (PEACOQ Scouting Tool), a tool for collecting internal ideas (PEACOQ Gate 0.5), and a tool for triggering organizational responses (Foresight Landing page). Particularly the link to innovation management and R&D strategy is discussed in detail. We further report on the value creation and lessons learned that have accumulated over the last eight years throughout which the tools and approach have been built gradually.

IT Tools for Foresight: The Integrated Insight and Response System of Deutsche Telekom Innovation Laboratories

The concept of strategic foresight has come to dominate contemporary management discourse in recent times with a remarkable upsurge in the number of scholarly papers reporting a positive influence of strategic foresight on innovation. This causal link has served not only as a point of convergence for many empirical and conceptual studies, but also the starting point for theorizing the relevance of strategic foresight in organizing. Drawing on an exhaustive sample of 258 academic publications from 1990–2014, this paper provides a comprehensive review of strategic foresight and its influence on innovation. Our review suggest that strategic foresight rather than directly resulting in innovation tend to rather influence it by shaping and giving form to innovation management tools, and future-oriented knowledge creation, which in turn cumulatively drive innovation performance. Our proposed integrative framework therefore specifies the conceptual linkages between strategic foresight and innovation performance.

Strategic Foresight for Innovation Management: A Review and Research Agenda

The use of web 2.0 in shaping and implementing public sector innovation policies is rather unexplored. Private sector innovation practice in web 2.0 suggests a good potential fir reshaping innovation polity processes from top down to more bottom-up approaches, building on low cost access to collaborative spaces of knowledge. By way of analysing a recent web 2.0 foresight project attached to European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), we explore how the application of web 2.0 process influences on the widely applied For-Learn Foresight Cycle and more in general on the design and management of foresight projects. The paper also identifies implications for polity-making and avenuesfirfiaure research.
