A connector for resuscitating an infant or neonate is disclosed. The pressure is varied between Peak Inspiratory Pressure (PIP) and Peak End Expiratory Pressure (PEEP) by the occlusion of the PEEP outlet. The PEEP outlet may either allow variable PEEP, by adjustment, or substantially flow independent fixed PEEP using a novel umbrella valve (308). A duck billed valve (305) is included for suctioning of surfactant delivery during resuscitation. The connector (134) is adapted to one handed use.

Breathing assistance apparatus

An adjustable forehead support for a nasal mask. The present invention discloses an adjustable forehead support for a nasal or full-face mask wherein the forehead support may be adjusted for the different shapes and sizes of a facial profile. The forehead support utilizes a dual-arm system which adjusts the position of the forehead support vis-a-vis the mask and/or air flow tube. The angle of the mask to the face may be adjusted with the present invention.

Each side frame member includes an integrally formed first connector portion. A headgear assembly is removably attachable to the frame. The headgear assembly has a second connector portion adapted to be removably coupled with the first connector portion provided on the frame. The second connector portion is manually movable to a releasing position to detach the headgear assembly from the frame. The headgear assembly is rotationally adjustable with respect to the frame.

A respiratory mask includes a frame including a breathable gas port, wherein the frame defines an inner chamber to receive at least one of a wearer's nasal region and mouth. The mask includes a cushion including a flange connected to the frame, an inner rim defining an opening to the inner chamber of the frame, and a sealing portion disposed between the flange and the inner rim to contact the wearer's face. The sealing portion includes a nasal seal section to span a wearer's face above the wearer's nares, side seal sections extending from each side of the nasal seal section on both sides of the wearer's mouth, and a chin seal section that extends between the side seal sections. The chin seal section is upwardly curved in an arch to follow the chin's bony contour.

Cushion for a respiratory mask assembly

A cushion for a patient interface that delivers breathable gas to a patient includes a base wall structured to be connected to a frame, an underlying support cushion extending away from the base wall towards the patient's face in use, and a membrane provided to substantially cover at least a portion of the underlying cushion. The membrane is adapted to form a continuous seal on the patient's face. The underlying cushion has a spring-like connection with the base wall. The underlying cushion and/or base wall define a spring constant that varies along a length of the seal.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain dislocation of a mask by a body movement, and reduce gas leakage to the minimum extent by providing a bellows-shaped elastic body between a surface where the mask is brought into close contact with a face and a frame in which the mask is installed. SOLUTION: When a bellows-shaped elastic body 7 is placed between a frame 3 and a mask 1, a peripheral shape of bellows coincides with a peripheral shape of the mask to be connected, and the contour of a recessed line or a pointed line of the bellows exists on a plane. Silicone rubber or the like being a material of the mask is used as a material of the bellows-shaped elastic body, and when it is integrally molded with the mask, a manufacturing cost is reduced, and the easily installing merits are produced. The pitch number, a distance between pitches and a thickness of the bellows are decided by the magnitude of pressure of positive pressure gas to be used, the size of the mask, a dislocation quantity and a dislocation angle to be restrained and a material to be used or the like. A height of the bellows shaped elastic body 7 is set to 10 to 30 mm, and the pitch number is desirable to be 2 to 10 pieces. A thickness of the bellows is also desirable to be 1 to 3 mm.

SOLUTION: This positive pressure artificial respiration assisting device includes a three-way valve means having a positive pressure air port 12 for intercepting the supply of curing gas in response to the operation stop of an artificial respiration assisting machine, a curing gas supply port 5 and an air open port 10, wherein the three-way valve means controls opening and closing of the port according to the differential pressure between the positive pressure air pressure and the atmospheric pressure and the balance with the stress means corresponding to the pressure.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a patient to inspire a constantly stable oxygen concentration by providing a feeding port of gas for medical treatment which has a positive pressure air feeding port for feeding positive pressure air from the upper part of nose in the lengthwise direction of nose and an expired air discharge opening at a position below nose holes, and adding gas for medical treatment toward the nose hole direction in the vicinity of the expired air discharge opening. SOLUTION: In a nose mask suitable for the intermittent positive pressure ventilating respiration method, a mask cushion 4 is fixed on a mask frame 3, and the mask cushion 4 is applied so as to closely contact the circumference of the nose. A positive pressure air feeding port 9 is provided at the upper part of the mask frame 3, and the positive pressure gas 8 is fed from above to below in lengthwise of nose from this feeding port 9. An expired air discharge opening 6 positions below the nose holes 5 of a user of the mask frame 3, and the expired air discharge flow quantity can easily be changed by plugging the discharge opening 6 when necessary. The feeding port 7 of gas for medical treatment integrally molded with the mask frame 3 is installed near the expired air discharge opening 6 toward the direction of the nose holes of the user.
