Hand-tearable barrier laminates are provided which include a reinforcing layer having a first tensile strength laminated to flexible cellulosic web comprising open porosity and a second tensile strength which is less than the first tensile strength. The web is treated with a water-resistant polymeric resin for providing liquid water resistance to the web while permitting water vapor to pass through it. Inexpensive web materials can be substituted for polymer foam and microperforated plastic films currently employed by the housing industry.

Hand-tearable moisture barrier laminate

The panel includes a water resistant barrier layer secured atop its outward facing surface. The water resistant barrier layer includes a skid resistant surface. The panels are made of lignocellulosic material. The water resistant and skid resistant surface may include indicia for aligning strips of tape or for aligning fasteners. A method for manufacturing the water resistant building panels is also disclosed and includes the steps of feeding paper onto a forming belt, depositing lignocellulosic material and the binding agent onto the forming belt so as to form a lignocellulosic mat, applying heat and pressure so as to impart the skid resistant surface on the paper, and cutting panels to predetermined sizes.

A barrier laminate for attachment to the outer surface of a structure, such as a house prior to attachment of its siding, to cover joints between structural members assembled to form the structure. The barrier laminate comprises a flexible elongate barrier layer having minute passageways between its major surfaces affording passage of water vapor while restricting the passage of liquid water and air between its major surfaces. A portable carrier having a pair of hubs engaging a roll of the barrier laminate and having a pair of trailing rollers which may be used to adhere exposed layers of pressure sensitive adhesive along each of the opposite edges of the barrier layer to structural members on opposite sides of a joint therebetween.

A barrier laminate (10) for attachment to the outer surface of a structure, such as a house prior to attachment of its siding, to cover joints between structural members assembled to form the structure. The barrier laminate (10) comprises a flexible elongate barrier layer (18) having minute passageways between its major surfaces (21, 22) affording passage of water vapor while restricting the passage of liquid water and air between its major surfaces (21, 22). Means providing an exposed layer (24) of pressure sensitive adhesive along each of the opposite edges (20) of the barrier layer (18) are provided for adhering the barrier layer (18) to structural members on opposite sides of a joint therebetween.
