Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of botanical powders and extracts from Nigerian plants as protectants of maize grains against maize weevil, Sitophilus zeamais (Motschulsky) [Coleoptera: Curculionidae].

TL;DR: The results showed that Acanthus montanus powder was the most potent with 65% adult mortality after 24 hours of treatment and Argyreia nervosa powder evoked 52.5% weevil mortality as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparative effectiveness of the powders of some underutilized botanicals for the control of Callosobruchus maculatus (Coleoptera: Bruchidae).

TL;DR: Evaluation of the plant powders on survival and development of C. maculatus revealed that fecundity and adult emergence were drastically reduced in all treatments except those with G. kola and A. boonei.
Journal ArticleDOI

Efficacy of Kigelia africana Lam. (Benth.) leaf and stem bark ethanolic extracts on adult cowpea seed beetle, [Callosobruchus maculatus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)] affecting stored cowpea seeds (Vigna unguiculata)

TL;DR: The results obtained showed that the two extracts of K. africana were effective in suppressing the population of the infamous stored pest of cowpea seed beetle, C. maculatus and could therefore be recommended to replace the harmful synthetic chemical insecticides in protectingcowpea seeds in storage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effectiveness of the Powders of Securidaca longepedunculata (Fres.) as Bioinsecticides against Cowpea Beetle, Callosobruchus maculatus (Fab.) (Coleoptera : Chrysomelidae)

TL;DR: The results obtained from this research work showed that root bark of S. longepedunculata contains components of higher toxicity potential, which is likely to increase the mortality of the insect with increased in concentration and exposure time.

Effect of different drying methods and storage on proximate and mineral composition of fluted pumpkin leaf, Telfairia occidentalis Hook f.

TL;DR: In this paper, the best drying method for the preservation of Telfairia occidentalis using the mineral and proximate constituents as indices was determined using the results of various analysis.
