Classification of subtype of acute ischemic stroke. Definitions for use in a multicenter clinical trial. TOAST. Trial of Org 10172 in Acute Stroke Treatment
Harold P. Adams,Birgitte H. Bendixen,L J Kappelle,José Biller,Betsy B. Love,David Lee Gordon,E. Eugene Marsh +6 more
TL;DR: The TOAST stroke subtype classification system is easy to use and has good interobserver agreement and should allow investigators to report responses to treatment among important subgroups of patients with ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circadian variation in onset of acute ischemic stroke
E. Eugene Marsh,José Biller,Harold P. Adams,John R. Marler,James Hulbert,Betsey B. Love,David Lee Gordon +6 more
TL;DR: The data demonstrate that an early morning peak exists for all subtypes of stroke and suggest that the most critical period is the first hour after awakening.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of antithrombotic drugs in the treatment of acute ischemic stroke: a survey of neurologists in practice in the United States.
E. Eugene Marsh,Harold P. Adams,José Biller,Patricia A. Wasek,Karla Banwart,Victoria L. Mitchell,Robert F. Woolson +6 more
TL;DR: Results of a future trial testing the efficacy of antithrombotic drugs would be useful for most neurologists in their management of patients with acute or progressing ischemic stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spontaneous improvement after acute ischemic stroke. A pilot study.
José Biller,Betsy B. Love,E. Eugene Marsh,Michael P. Jones,Laurie E. Knepper,Donald Jiang,Harold P. Adams,David Lee Gordon +7 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that spontaneous, often dramatic improvement occurs in patients with acute ischemic stroke and should be taken into consideration in the design of any trial of acute treatment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Etiology of stroke in patients with Wernicke's aphasia.
TL;DR: Patients with Wernicke's aphasia should have computed tomography to exclude intracerebral hemorrhage before institution of anticoagulant therapy and an embolic source should be sought.
