Journal ArticleDOI

An experimental and morphological analysis of the tail bud mesenchyme of the chick embryo

TL;DR: It is suggested that cell death may be a contributory factor in preventing segmentation in the chick embryo and that in the normal embryo massive cell death overtakes the tail bud mesoderm before it can segment.
Journal ArticleDOI

Somitomeres in the chick tail bud: an SEM study.

TL;DR: Using scanning electron microscopy, it is shown that somitomeres are present in the terminal paraxial mesoderm of the tail bud of the chick embryo, indicating that it may have the potential to form supplementary somites, though what prohibits the completion of segmentation to the tip is unknown.
