Electric, thermoelectric and magnetic characterization of γ-Fe 2 O 3 and Co 3 O 4 nanoparticles synthesized by facile thermal decomposition of metal-Schiff base complexes

The physical properties, such as electric and optical properties, of metal-Schiff base complexes have been widely investigated. However, their thermoelectric (TE) properties remain unreported. This work presents Cu(II)-Schiff base complexes as promising materials for TE power generation. Therefore, three Cu(II)-Schiff base complexes (namely, [Cu(C32H22N4O2)].3/2H2O, [Cu(C23H17N4O7Br)], and [Cu(C27H22N4O8)].H2O) have been synthesized in nanosized scale. The electric and TE properties have been studied and comprehensive discussions have been presented to promote the nano-complexes (NCs) practical applications in the field of TE power generation. The electrical measurements confirm that the NCs are semiconductors and the electrical conduction process is governed by intermolecular and intramolecular transfer of the charge carriers. The TE measurements reveal that the Cu(II)-Schiff base NCs are nondegenerate P-type semiconductors. The measured Seebeck coefficient values were higher compared to the values reported in previous works for other organic materials indicating that the complexes under study are promising candidates for theremoelectric applications if the electrical conductivity could be enhanced.

The electric and thermoelectric properties of Cu(II)-Schiff base nano-complexes

ZnO nanowires (NWs) were synthesized on Au-coated Si (100) substrates by vapor transport method. The effect of high temperature annealing on the structural and chemical composition as well as thermal stability was studied. The as-prepared ZnO NWs was nearly stoichiometric and identified as hexagonal ZnO phase. After annealing at 1,473 K, the atomic ratio of O/Zn, the intensity of the diffraction peaks, and the diameter of nanowires were increased. The ZnO NWs were fragmented into nanocrystals and the fragments coalesced with each other after annealing at 1,673 K. The thermal stability of ZnO NWs was studied by thermo-gravimetric (TG) analysis. A sharp increase in the TG curves was observed and can be attributed to the oxidation of some possibly presented Zn atoms. The activation energy of oxidation of Zn interstitial atoms was found to be 484.81 kJ mol−1. A mass gain peak was observed after annealing at 1,473 K, but it was completely eliminated after annealing at 1,673 K.

Electric, Thermoelectric and Magnetic Properties of Nickel(II) Imine Nanocomplexes

The structural, mechanical and transport properties of RuSr2GdCu2O8 sintered between 1000 and 1065 ◦ Ci n O 2 atmosphere have been studied by XRD, microhardness and Seebeck coefficient measurements. The pellets have a tetragonal perovskite-type structure. Microhardness and bulk density of the considered samples increase with increasing sintering temperature. TEP is positive for all samples and decreases with increasing sintering temperature. The normal state TEP data are discussed in view of some theoretical models, namely a two-band model with an additional linear T term and variable range hopping models.
