Food self-sufficiency is a government program that has been being actively promoted so that Indonesia can reach food independence by the end of 2019. Indonesia is a maritime country and also an agricultural country with two seasons namely rainy season and dry season. In the rainy season, food plants usually do not need to be watered, while in the dry season, the plants must be watered regularly in accordance with soil moisture conditions. Farmers usually do not grow food plants in the dry season for fear that it will not grow well. The farmer’s dependence on the season causes the production to decline and becomes an obstacle in the success of the food self-sufficiency program. An information and communication technology-based agricultural device is needed to overcome the problem. The research aimed to design a programmed microcontroller chip to control watering automatically based on soil moisture detected using a domestic soil moisture sensor. This device detects whether the soil is dry or not. The farmers do not need to do watering manually. In addition to helping farmers, the device can also be installed on plantations, seedbed nurseries, urban parks, hotels, offices, and in homes that have parks or plants that need regular watering.

Design of Automatic Watering System Based on Arduino

IoT is an emerging technology in recent years. Using IoT, it is easy to build the application which makes human's life easier. It decreases the efforts of human physically and gives the pin-point values. Now-a-days, IoT has been implemented in every domain. One of the domains is nursery, where the plants are maintained in various weather conditions. The main objective of this paper is to develop an automated model which can also be monitored for the good growth of the plants in a nursery. Since various tiny plants are grown in a nursery, it is very important to monitor and maintain a good weather conditions which plays a key role. The parameters like humidity, temperature, and soil moisture are taken to monitor the plants. Whenever the temperature values are high, a fan is activated to maintain the temperature so that the plants will grow healthy. This doesn't involve a user to monitor the nursery all the time to ensure that all the plants are growing in a good condition with a good environment. This model is developed using Arduino AT Mega 328, ESP 8266 Wi-Fi module, and sensors like humidity, temperature, and soil moisture. The values predicted by these sensors can be viewed on ThingView Free application.

Nursery automation and monitoring in IoT using ThingView Free

The primary aim of this project is to develop and atomize the PV farmers pump considering the power supply, direct current (DC), Alternating current (AC), inverter frequency, GSM technology, a well, water level in the well, submersible monoblock pump. Here we introduce an advanced technique with GSM (Global Service for Mobile communication) module. The PV farmers pump which work by utilizing the energy from the SOLAR ARRAYS and the power from the PV panel are stored in a battery. The power from the battery is inverted and given to the pump for irrigation. This pump is also controlled by the GSM module. The use of GSM mode is to start and stop working of pumps using mobile phone; the water level monitoring is also done by the GSM mode which this also provides the message the status for each hour. This is done with the embedded C in PIC16F877A microcontroller. The main advantage of this project is optimizing the power and also saving government's free subsidiary electricity (22% of total power production in India). This proves an efficient and economy way of irrigation and this will automate the agriculture sector.
