A multi-port optical connection terminal for use as a branch point in a fiber optic communications network at a distance from a mid-span access location provided on a distribution cable having a plurality of optical fibers. The multi-port terminal includes a base and a cover affixed to the base. A stub cable port formed through one of the base and the cover receives a stub cable having at least one optical fiber extending continuously from the multi-port terminal to the mid-span access location. A first end of the optical fiber is optically connected to a respective optical fiber of the distribution cable at the mid-span access location and a fiber optic connector is mounted upon the second end. At least one connector port is provided on the multi-port terminal for receiving the fiber optic connector and a connectorized end of a fiber optic drop cable extending from the multi-port terminal.

An outside plant fiber distribution apparatus includes a frame member and a plurality of fiber optic modules mounted to the frame member. The frame member includes upper and lower module mounting brackets. Each module includes a front and two mounting flanges, each mountable to one of the upper and lower module mounting brackets. At least one of the modules is configured as a connection module including a plurality of connection locations disposed along the front of the module. A rear of the module includes a cable notch region for receipt of a cable. At least one of the modules defines a storage module including first and second spools. In an interconnect system, the storage module includes a cable clamp for holding a second cable, the cables are connected through the connection locations of the connection module. In a cross-connect system, two connection modules are provided, and patch cords are used to connect the fronts of the connection modules. The modules may also house splices, and/or optical couplers, such as splitters and wave division multiplexers.

Outside plant fiber distribution apparatus and method

A composite cable breakout assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes an enclosure for receiving a composite cable having a fiber optic cable with at least one optical fiber and an electrical power cable with at least one electrical conductor. The enclosure has at least one port providing passage to the exterior of the enclosure. The at least one optical fiber is terminated by a fiber optic connector and the at least one electrical conductor is terminated by an electrical connector. Alternatively, the at least one optical fiber and the at least one electrical conductor may be terminated by a composite optical/electrical connector. The fiber optic cable and the electrical power cable route to the at least one port enabling connection external to the enclosure for extension of optical signal and electrical power to components external to the enclosure.

Modular wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) connector

The invention relates to an optical integrated circuit for bidirectional communications which is able to achieve a downsizing and high integration with the production cost thereof decreased. An optical waveguide circuit is formed on a substrate and a photo diode (PD) is connected to the outgoing end side thereof. The optical waveguide circuit has a circuit of an optical wavelength division multiplexer which causes communication signal light (λ1) inputted from a bidirectional light input/output port to be transmitted through a communication light selective transmission filter and to be outputted from a communication light output port and causes non-communication light (λ2) to be reflected by the communication light selective transmission filter and to outgo through a non-communication light output port. A piezoelectric element is provided on the upper part at the outgoing side of the communication light output port. When the communication signal light passing through the optical waveguide circuit is inputted into the PD 8, the PD 8 is actuated in the reception mode to receive communication signal light and is not driven in the transmission mode to reflect communication signal light toward the optical waveguide circuit side by a high reflection coating film. The reflection light is given polarization plane modulation by the piezoelectric element, and the polarization plane modulated light is transmitted from the bidirectional light input/output port.

Optical integrated circuit for bidirectional communications and method for producing the same

OF THE DISCLOSURE An electro-optical module has at least three ports, with at least one port having an active electro-optical device for connection to electrical circuitry and at least one port having an optical port for connection to an optical fiber link. A passive coupler interfaces the various ports. The passive coupler is formed of optical fibers mounted on glass using an adhesive that exhibits refractive index-matching characteristics. The fiber-on-glass coupler is extremely small, allowing for the module to have minimal size. The coupler may be wavelength selective or wavelength insensitive. If a wavelength-selective coupler is utilized, the end surface of an optical fiber is coated with a dichroic filter to provide wavelength sensitivity. An optical fiber adapted to receive light for connection to a detector is selected to be a multi-mode fiber to increase reception of light. The remaining fibers may be single-mode fibers.
