The construction industry has a poor reputation for an unhealthy lifestyle and a high prevalence of health problems such as obesity, stress and hypertension among construction workers. The review examines the factors influencing the design and delivery of health promotion programs implemented by construction organisations to educate workers and promote a healthy lifestyle. It also identifies gaps in research and practices and proposes directions for future research.,A systematic review of 51 relevant journal articles published during 2010–2019 was undertaken to achieve the aim of the study.,The review reveals 46 different factors grouped into four major themes related to individuals, organisations, industry and the program, influencing the successful implementation of health promotion programs. The top ten most cited factors are cost, time, facilities and resources, transient workforce, delivery method, influence from managers, long working hours, masculine culture, production pressure and interest. The review also found a noticeable lack of studies on implementing health promotion programs in the context of developing countries, small and medium-sized construction organisations, residential sector workers, and construction professionals and female workers.,The review's scope is limited to research on health promotion programs, and it did not investigate the factors affecting the health of construction workers in construction projects.,A better understanding of various influencing factors present at different decision levels will inform the future implementation of targeted workforce health promotion strategies to foster construction workers' health and well-being.,The review reveals bottlenecks that need to be addressed to successfully implement health promotion programs in the construction industry. It provides new insights that can improve existing health and workplace policies and health promotion programs in the construction industry. Finally, it identifies new research directions in a neglected but crucial area of workers' health and safety management.

Enablers and barriers to healthy eating among hospital nurses: A systematic review.

Background: Performing physical activity on a regular basis and having proper health behaviors can bring many benefits to staff nurses as improving their job performance with having more energy to complete the work allocated to them which affect positively on the quality of patient care. Aim of this study was to explore the effect of physical activity and health behavior on staff nurses' job performance. Methods: Design: Descriptive cross sectional research design was used. Subjects: The study included representative sample (35%) from all staff nurses (314) working at Tanta Emergency Hospital and the total sample was (110) of staff nurses. Tools: Three tools for data collection were used. Tool (I): Physical Activity Questionnaire. Tool (II): Health Behavior Assessment Scale. Tool (III): Staff Nurses' Job Performance Observation Checklist. Results: High percent (77.3%) of staff nurses had low level of physical activity and 69.1% and 45.5%of them had moderate level of health behavior and job performance respectively. Conclusion: It was concluded that significant positive correlation between staff nurses' job performance with physical activity and health behavior. Recommendations: Hospital administrators need to hold in service education programs on healthy behaviors and physical activity to promote nurses' health and ensure raising level of their performance.

Healthy eating and physical activity among new graduate nurses: A qualitative study of barriers and enablers during their first year of clinical practice

AIMS This study explored the acceptability of a workplace health promotion intervention embedded into a transition to practice (TTP) programme to assist new graduate nurses in establishing healthy dietary and physical activity (PA) behaviours from career commencement. DESIGN A sequential mixed methods design. METHODS The Start Healthy and Stay Healthy (SH&SH) intervention, informed by the Behaviour Change Wheel, was conducted in an Australian Local Health District. It included face-to-face education sessions, the use of a fitness tracker and twice-weekly short answer messages. Participants completed three online surveys: at orientation, 6 weeks and 6 months. A sub-sample participated in semi-structured interviews to explore their experience of the intervention. Interview data were analysed thematically. RESULTS The intervention was delivered from February to December 2019. A total of 99 nurses completed the baseline survey, 62 at 6 weeks and 69 at 6 months. After 6 months, health knowledge increased as participants correctly identified recommended amounts of fruits, vegetables and PA. Fruit consumption increased at 6 months with little change to vegetable intake. Takeaway consumption decreased, but consumption of some discretionary foods increased. Across the three time points, there was a low engagement in PA during leisure time. The interviews identified three themes: (1) Support of Colleagues and Peers, (2) The Work Environment and (3) Engagement with SH&SH. CONCLUSION Providing a targeted intervention for new graduate nurses embedded into a TTP programme improved their health knowledge, some dietary behaviours, and participation in PA by some participants. IMPACT Ensuring a healthy nursing workforce is critical to retaining staff. Implementing a workplace health promotion intervention that targets new graduate nurses can help them adopt and maintain healthy lifestyle behaviours to support them in their future careers.
