Abstract: The interview which follows took place at Levinas’s home in the
summer of 1986, when Alison Ainley, Peter Hughes and Tamra
Wright, graduate students at the University of Warwick, went to
Paris to discuss with Levinas several questions which had arisen at
weekly seminars on Totality and Infinity during the course of the
preceding academic year. The questions were sent to Levinas before
the interview, with the result that his responses frequently refer to
more than one question at a time.
