Context: concept Maps (CMs) enable the creation of a schematic representation of a domain knowledge. For this reason, CMs have been applied in different research areas, including Computer Science. Objective: the objective of this paper is to present the results of a systematic mapping study conducted to collect and evaluate existing research on CMs initiatives in Computer Science. Method: the mapping study was performed by searching five electronic databases. We also performed backward snowballing and manual search to find publications of researchers and research groups that accomplished these studies. Results: from the mapping study, we identified 108 studies addressing CMs initiatives in different subareas of Computer Science that were reviewed to extract relevant information to answer a set of research questions. The mapping shows an increasing interest in the topic in recent years and it has been extensively investigated due to support in teaching and learning. Conclusions: based on our results we conclude that the use of CMs as an educational tool has been widely accepted in Computer Science.

Analyzing the Use of Concept Maps in Computer Science: A Systematic Mapping Study

This paper discusses how the software development team at the German Jordanian University (GJU) adopted the project management and software development processes in the ISO/IEC 29110 series to implement a complex Student Information System (SIS). Specifically, it identifies the key points to be taken into consideration in the analysis, design, implementation, testing, and deployment phases during the iterative and incremental SIS development process. The SIS is a distributed three‐tier web‐based application that enables registrars to perform various tasks such as system setup, admission, registration, grades processing, graduation, and reporting. It was launched in the first 2015/2016 semester and enabled administration to maintain a comfortable learning environment, assess instructor performance, enhance teaching practices, and improve course content. The results of the system measurements and user survey assert that the SIS is feature rich, easy to use, fast, reliable, stable, highly available, and scalable. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The software engineering of a three-tier web-based student information system MyGJU

Integrated curriculum is a popular way to develop 21st century skills, but most of the materials is written on the books separately. In the other hand, web-based learning technology is an online learning media that can be accessed anytime and anywhere on the web and using the internet connection. However, many educational websites do not apply the principles of effective learning. Besides, the traditional learning methods tend to be bored for the students. To remedy this deficiency, this study designed a website education use an interactive content to assist students in learning levers in the human body as one of integrated science materials. The process to develop the website education are consisted of several steps: (1) content analysis; (2) user analysis; (3) software necessity analysis; (4) hardware necessity analysis; (5) learning materials design; (6) flowchart design; (7) storyboard design; (8) interface construction making; (9) coding construction making. This research method used descriptive method. The experts on content, language, and media/IT evaluated the website education. The questionnaire used the technology acceptance model and five-dimensional interactivity to investigate the readability of science teachers’ and students’ perception respond. The research subject was 3 science teachers and 31 students on private Junior High School in Bandung. According to the result, the implementation of the website education, generally it has a good evaluation of each aspect. Even though, the website education will be slow to load because of poor signal, so it needs strong signal to access the website education for not taking time consumer.

The Development of Web-Based Learning Using Interactive Media for Science Learning on Levers in Human Body Topic.

Adaptive approaches within distance learning systems enable adapting teaching process to the needs of each learner during the learning process. This paper presents an algorithm for creating an adaptive learning process that provides knowledge and skills improvement for learners in the Java programming language. Also, it presents the application of the tool that checks the learner's knowledge through solving practical tasks from the Java programming language. The adaptive learning process in this work leads the learner through teaching materials and practical tasks where the acquired knowledge is required to be applied. Also, the algorithm, based on the measurement of knowledge and time spent on a particular part of the learning process with detailed feedback and the demonstration of observed deficiencies, directs the learner to teaching materials that allow improving the demonstrated knowledge. Teaching materials are conceived as learning objects and, as such, allow for the application of adaptive approach. An analysis of the effectiveness of the algorithm and tool for practical knowledge testing from the Java programming language was done with a test group of learners who gave their opinions and grades.

Algorithm for adaptive learning process and improving learners’ skills in Java programming language

The number of electronic educational resources is multiplying day by day. Though such resources can be used in teaching children, teachers are not aware of their effectiveness thus far. So as to include websites in educational process purposefully and methodologically profoundly, it is important for the teacher to have cognizance of educational tasks that can be solved with the help of electronic resources, methodological functions they perform, and types of training activities they support and initiate. The paper is aimed to reveal the effectiveness of the interactive educational platform UCHI.ru while teaching math to primary school students. The leading methods applied in the research are as follows: testing, observation and analysis of educational process aimed to teach Mathematics to children aged between eight and nine through the use of UCHI.ru interactive educational platform to specify the dynamics of mathematical skills development in primary school students. The paper proves the validity of primary school students’ mathematical training using UCHI.ru interactive educational platform; reveals features in teaching Mathematics to children aged 8-9 with the use of an educational website; identifies possible problem areas in teaching Mathematics using UCHI.ru interactive educational platform. UCHI.ru interactive educational platform, proposed in the paper, improves learners’ motivation, facilitates their search competence formation and identifies gaps in basic knowledge of “Mathematics” as a subject for each student in class. UCHI.ru interactive educational platform can be employed by primary school teachers as supplementary didactic material.

Features and Advantages of Using Websites in Teaching Mathematics (Interactive Educational Platform UCHI.ru)

Concept map model is a method that creates domain model by identifying the relationship between concepts in course contents. This study presents an adaptive intelligent web based learning system called OPCOMITS (Object Oriented Programming Tutor using Concept Map Model). OPCOMITS has a free domain model which can be regulated by an expert for any course. It uses concept map model to regulate the topic hierarchy, to measure the student's knowledge about a topic and to stimulate learning. By employing a concept map model, it structures the course and provides an environment in which the lecturer can arrange the chapters, topics, concepts and the prerequisite relationships between the concepts. Thus, it offers an adaptive and effective learning environment by measuring the level of student's knowledge about a topic, offering reinforcing feedback, diagnosing students' weaknesses and directing them to related chapter topic in the domain for revisions. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed approach an experiment has been conducted on Computer Programming department in Object Oriented Programming course. From the experimental results, it is found that OPCOMITS has contributed to the academic success of students using it and students have exhibited much better learning than those who have used a conventional e-learning system. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. OPCOMITS: Developing an adaptive and intelligent web based educational system based on concept map model

In this study, the design of embedded Sugeno fuzzy logic based controller for controlling non-linear liquid level process is realized. First, the system was activated on Matlab-Simulink platform and uploaded to Arduino Mega. With this study, activation of modern control methods on embedded systems is simplistically proven. When the control system operation was checked out, it has been observed that it was pretty successful.
