The Vegetation Prodrome of Italy was promoted in 2012 by the Italian “Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea Protection”, in collaboration with the “Italian Society of Botany”, to provide a comprehensive and systematic catalogue and description of Italian plant communities. The Prodrome that is presented in this paper is the first full organic synthesis of the vegetation of Italy at the alliance syntaxonomic level. It fulfils several needs, the main one being a unified and comprehensive national framework that may make an important contribution to the definition of the European Vegetation Prodrome. Syntaxonomy, as well as taxonomy, is sometimes based on considerations that may in part diverge: several authors tend to favour models that are divisive or aggregative to a greater or lesser extent in terms of flora, biogeography and ecology. Plant communities of Italy: The Vegetation Prodrome

Downie, S.R., Spalik, K., Katz-Downie, D.S. & Reduron, J.-P.: Major clades within Apiaceae subfamily Apioideae as inferred by phylogenetic analysis of nrDNA ITS sequences. — Plant Div. Evol. 128: 111–136. 2010. — ISSN 1869-6155. The results of phylogenetic analyses of 1240 nrDNA ITS sequences of Apiaceae subfamily Apioideae, representing 292 genera and 959 species from all major clades of the subfamily except those most basally branching, were compared to a preexisting phylogenetic classification for the group based on several molecular markers and a smaller sampling of taxa. This was done to confirm previously defined tribal and generic limits and to identify additional major clades and genera whose monophyly and relationships can be tested in future studies. All species for which ITS data are available in GenBank plus newly obtained sequences for 53 additional taxa were considered for inclusion in this study and their simultaneous analysis permitted misidentifications and other problematic sequences to be revealed. Analyses of these ITS data, in conjunction with results of recently published molecular studies, identified 41 major clades in Apioideae, of which 21 have already been recognized at the tribal or subtribal rank. No major changes to the preexisting phylogenetic classification of Apioideae are proposed, other than the recognition of additional major clades and the expansion of others to accommodate increased sampling. As noted in previous studies, many genera are not monophyletic; indeed, 18 genera are highly polyphyletic, with their members occurring in 2 to 7 major clades. Each of the 1240 accessions examined can be unambiguously assigned to a particular major clade. Resolution of relationships, as well as the formal recognition of several major clades, must await supporting data, such as that from the cpDNA trnQ(UUG)–5’trnK(UUU) intergenic spacer region. An ITS-based classification of the subfamily is proposed that enables direct and precise references to specific groups and facilitates sampling and hypothesis testing in future systematic studies.

ricerca e quello di approfondire le conoscenze sulle
piante endemiche della Sardegna pubblicando il risultato
delle indagini in maniera uniforme sotto forma di scheda.
Lo schema di trattazione comprende tutti gli aspetti di
un'entita, come andrebbero proposti per una flora critica: sinonimia, descrizione, identificazione del typus, etimologia, iconografie, numero cromosomico, tipo biologico, fenologia, areale, materiale d'erbario esaminato, ecologia, note e bibliografia. Ogni entita,
inoltre, e sempre stata corredata da un'iconografia e da
una cartina di distribuzione in Sardegna costruita per
punti solo da exsiccata revisionati.

A taxonomic revision of the Italian species of Aristolochia L. has been carried out. Evidence and information were drawn from the study of living plants and herbarium exsiccata, including type material. The attention was focused on the flower morphological characters, frequently disregarded, and on the chromosome numbers. This resulted in the systematic, nomenclatural and chorological rearrangement of the genus with special regard to Italy. Ten taxa were recognized to grow in Italy against the seven or eight entities listed in recent Floras: A. altissima Desf. (Sicily); A. clematitis L. (continental Italy, Sicily); A, rotunda L. The genus «Aristolochia» L. (Aristolochiaceae) in Italy

An analysis of internal transcribed spacer (ITS) DNA sequences of the four species of Carum L. (Apiaceae) known in Italy revealed that this genus is polyphyletic. Maximum parsimony with bootstrap resampling, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses resulted in three distinct clades: Carum carvi L. clustered within tribe Careae Baill. (former Aegopodium clade); Hellenocarum multiflorum (= Carum multiflorum), Carum heldreichii and Carum appuanum clustered within the tribe Pyramidoptereae Boiss.; and H. multiflorum and C. heldreichii formed a well supported clade. Since the sister group of H. multiflorum and C. heldreichii was Bunium elegans the autonomy of Hellenocarum from Carum is confirmed by our study. We also found that C. appuanum clustered separately from the other Carum species, with the closest related species appearing to be Scaligeria moreana but this still had few morphological similarities with C. appuanum.

Molecular evidence of polyphyletism in the plant genus Carum L. (Apiaceae)

Palynological contribution to the systematics of Rindera and the allied genera Paracaryum and Solenanthus (Boraginaceae-Cynoglosseae)

The two closely related speciesLycopsis variegata andAnchusa cretica, formerly placed inAnchusa subg.Rivinia, were compared with the type species ofLycopsis andAnchusa, on the basis of a set of macro and microcharacters. The presence of only two fertile stamens as well as other peculiar characters in flower structure, androecium, gynoecium, pollen and fruit, supports the institution of the new genusAnchusella, consisting ofA. variegata andA. cretica. Karyological and eco-chorological aspects are consistent with morphological data in pointing to the autonomy of this genus, which appears characterized by autapomorphic, advanced traits.
