An engine includes a throttle assembly, a governor, and an actuator. The throttle assembly is designed to at least partially control a fuel flow rate of the engine. The governor is designed to sense a speed of the engine and at least partially control the throttle assembly as a function of the engine speed. The actuator is designed to sense a manifold vacuum pressure of the engine and at least partially control the throttle assembly as a function of the vacuum pressure.

A hood assembly for a machine includes an enclosure within which at least one exhaust aftertreatment device is mounted. The engine hood assembly may be preassembled so that the exhaust aftertreatment system is integrated into the enclosure. This may allow the hood assembly to be assembled to the machine and the exhaust aftertreatment system mated to an exhaust pipe from the engine as a unit while the machine is being built on an assembly line. The engine hood assembly may include ventilation openings to assist in heat rejection from the engine compartment and from the exhaust aftertreatment devices. The hood assembly of the present disclosure finds particular application in assisting large track type tractors in meeting ever more stringent exhaust emission requirements without extensive and expensive redesign alternatives.

In accordance with one embodiment, a parabolic trough system is disclosed to capture solar heat. It has low mass, high rigidity and precise robust rotational control. The trough does not require massive supports, since it use a “sandwich structure” where the core is lightweight urethane foam and the skin is made of aluminum sheet. The inside skin also functions as the parabolic reflector. The shape minimizes wind loads by centering the receiver in the parabola and by making the center of focus the center of rotation. The system can be rapidly built in the field since there are few parts. Assembly does not require heavy equipment. Support posts are used on both sides of the trough to minimize the anchoring requirements in wind loads. The trough bodies are rotated in a rotational control mechanism that uses circumscribing rings to support a continuous row of troughs that can sustain 120 mile per hour winds. Optical performance is improved with the drive ring design. The structure is continuous and torque is uniformly applied to each ring through two spools supported on drive tubes. A cable is wrapped around each spool as well as around the top part of the ring. As the spools rotate, they pull the cable and rotate the rings and troughs with precision and strength. The spools and cables also restrain the system under high wind loads.

An air cleaner device for filtering intake air including a housing defining a chamber, a filter element disposed within the chamber, and a duct element having a passageway in fluid communication with the chamber. Further, the duct element extends along and downwardly from about a portion of the housing and further includes an inlet for drawing intake air into the chamber. The air cleaner having a base member in fluid communication with the chamber and an outlet, where the air drawn into the chamber is filtered by first and second filtering operations to obtain filtered air, with the first and the second filtering operations accomplished at least in part due to a cyclonic motion of the air and passage of the air through the filter element, respectively; and where the filtered air from the chamber of the housing is released through the outlet in the base member.

A variety of embodiments of exhaust systems for engines including small off-road engines, and related methods of operation, are disclosed. In at least some embodiments, the exhaust system includes a first conduit that receives exhaust emissions from a first engine cylinder, and a second conduit that communicates air to a first port on the first conduit. The air mixes with the exhaust emissions within the first conduit so as to produce a chemical reaction, and a level of at least one undesirable component of the exhaust emissions is reduced. Further, the exhaust system does not include any catalytic converter. In some embodiments, the exhaust system further comprises a crankcase ventilation system.

An evaporative venting system for use in an internal combustion engine and a method for venting fuel vapors are disclosed. The evaporative venting system includes a containment chamber at least in indirect communication with a fuel tank and a passageway defined within the containment chamber and having an inlet opening and an outlet opening. The inlet opening is at least indirectly in communication with the fuel tank and the outlet opening is at least indirectly in communication with an evaporative chamber such that the passageway provides a vent path between the fuel tank and the evaporative chamber such that the vent path allows for both the venting of fuel vapors from the fuel tank and the intake of air into the fuel tank during all angles of positioning of the fuel tank.

System and method for venting fuel vapors in an internal combustion engine

A system and method of controlling/adjusting purge flow rate in an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The system includes an air intake assembly, a fuel tank assembly and an evaporative emissions control device such as a carbon canister in operational association with each other. Fuel vapors from the fuel tank assembly flow into the evaporative emissions control device for adsorption. The adsorbed fuel vapors from the evaporative emissions control device are recovered, at least in part due to pressure differentials, and actively purged into the internal combustion engine. The purge flow rate from the evaporative emissions control device is controlled/adjusted by a flow control device, the flow control device that is at least indirectly connected to the evaporative emissions control device and the air intake assembly. In one aspect, the flow control device can comprise an orifice device, such as, a connector device having at least one orifice for regulating purge flow rate. In another aspect, the flow control device can comprise a filter device for cleaning the intake and/or purged air in addition to regulating the purge flow rate.

In at least one embodiment, the liquid tank (2) is a liquid fuel tank (2) that includes a housing (19) having an inner chamber capable of containing liquid fuel (16) as well as an air space (10) above an upper surface of the liquid fuel (6), and a floating member (12) included within the inner chamber (19), where the floating member (12) is configured to float proximate the upper surface (18) of the liquid fuel (9) when the liquid fuel (9) is present within the inner chamber. The floating member (11) includes at least one tapered surface, and the floating member covers a majority of the upper surface of the liquid fuel (9), whereby the liquid fuel (9) evaporates to a lesser degree than would occur if the floating member (12) was absent.
