As we fast forward towards 2020 world is technologically moving towards the digital life where almost any and every device or object could get some for of IP connectivity and in turn possibly to the Internet. IDC is anticipating more than 28 billion devices on the Internet. With this evolution, Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) have now become more critical than ever before - be it the public Wi-Fi hotspots, mobile Internet or simply smart homes. This technology has thus now gathered the attention in this newly emerging digital era to perform varied tasks and to transfer the data without any fixed infrastructure support. Cloud computing is one of its form and this technology moves way farther to benefit the human life. Thus MANET has got renewed focus as being one the key enablers of the Internet of things, a new advancement in order to enhance the overall performance and to provide a more sophisticated solution to the routing networking problem.

MANETs as propellant in the growth of the Internet of Things

Today's Internet makes hosts and individual networks inherently insecure because permanent addresses turn destinations into permanent attack targets. This paper describes an Evasive Internet Protocol (EIP), a change to the data plane of the Internet that: 1) prevents senders from forging their identities while preserving the current Internet privacy paradigm; 2) gives recipients full control over who can communicate with them and for how long; 3) achieves the above features without requiring global signaling protocols; and 4) allows coexistence with and graceful introduction into the current Internet. We motivate our approach, present the architectural design, and evaluate it through trace-driven and synthetic simulations as well as prototype testing.

Internet with transient destination-controlled addressing

In this paper, we investigate the issues that arise in the use of network capabilities to facilitate DoS prevention and mitigation in mobile ad hoc networks. Most proposals for capability-based protocols in wired networks depend upon routers on the path between the sender and receiver maintaining state that enables them to verify a capability. Frequent route changes make it necessary for any capability-based protocol for MANETs to re-establish this state as efficiently as possible. We propose EPIC, a method based on reverse-disclosure hash chains to support the establishment of path-independent capabilities and show how they can be efficiently maintained in a high mobility environment. Simulation results show that EPIC provides a 25.9% increase in performance and a 38.3% increase in efficiency over route-dependent capabilities.
